i have system version 4.2U bought my wii in '08. im not having any problems what so ever, but what i want to know is do i still follow through with the steps on making my wii back to its unmodded state? to what version do i downgrade it to? and what version do i update it to? since my system menu was already updated to 4.2U before i did any softmods on it. please help...i have searched everywhere for an answer and i cant seem to find the answer to it.
If you updated to 4.2, your wii is already virgin, so follow my guide to remod it if you want. unless of course you had cioscorp installed, which places you in a difficult state being a noob

Okay, I had soft modded my Wii before in the past, by looking up random guides and what not.
But I no longer really know what I've done to it, and I'd think it'd be helpful if I was able to undo all soft mods, and re-mod it from a virgin state all over again. (Now that I know to actually pay attention to everything that I do. Since I now have experience with homebrew and whatnot with my PSP)

    Question 1:
Is it in fact a good idea to do this, so I can keep track of what IOS/cIOS and stuff which I have installed.
And know entirely what homebrew I'm running on my Wii?
(I at least want to put BootMii on my Wii. And want to make sure I don't have cIOSCORP or something that'll prevent me from installing BootMii)

    Question 2:
Would the best method of going from Current -> Virgin -> Soft Mod be...
Follow this guide to make it Virgin, [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register].
Or is there a better method I should be looking at?

    Question 3:
Can I apply the steps in this guide, to make my Wii a virgin, no matter what previous steps I have applied to it? (even if I had installed cIOSCORP or not? [I can't remember if I have...])

If yes, you can ignore my attempt at remembering all updates I've done to my wii... (And that's the end of my questions.)

If no, perhaps you can read the quote (Just to make it different from the rest of the post) below and help me identify my changes?

    - I believe it was official all the way up until I got Brawl.
    - I read people were wavedashing and such with Brawl (Using I believe Gecko OS) so I went on to get the HBC for this reason (Lol, pretty bad reason.)
    - I think the only disk update I did, was when my brother played Sonic and the Black Knights. And updated it.
    - The next change I did was to install the Backup Loader channel (Idk, it's just called that I think)

    - Sometime after, my brother now bought Dead Space Extraction, and it wanted to update the system. [Was 3.4 (USA... forgot if it was U or E for the abbreviation)]
    - I extracted the IOS from the disk, and installed every single IOS that I got to the Wii. And the Wii still wanted me to System Update.
    - I then used (I believe Waninkoko's 4.0 updater) to update my wii to 4.0, hoping it would play. But it still wanted me to system update.
    - I for some reason thought it was a good idea to grab this other loader. (I think it's called NeoGamma, or something.) I installed that (And didn't really do anything else with it)

(Not related to Wii updates, but I then out of many options, ran the Dead Space disk through the Backup Loader Channel, and it played fine. O_o)

So after all that, I hadn't touched anything on the Wii anymore.
So again, now that you've (hopefully) read my (hopefully accurate) update past, does it look like I can (And is a good idea) follow this guide to restore my Wii to Virgin state?

So I did all of the steps and towards Step C: loading up AnyTitle Deleter, I select IOS36 and it gives me "Informing Wii that I am God. . .Error! ES_Identify (ret = -1017)" I am trying to "virginize" my wii, in order to start from scratch again. Please let me know how to fix this.

Just a quick note, I found that when I tried to take a Wii 4.0E that was softmodded and had HB,GC loader etc back to virgin using this method I couldn't delete any IOS using any title deleter. I also couldn't use Nintendo Server to take it back to 3.2E it kept throwing me back to main system screen. I had to use the folowing method which worked.

    Requisites:
    - Attached archive;
    - WiFi connection/LAN Adapter!
    - BannerBomb.
    - Your Wii MUSTN'T have a serial number starting with LU64 or LU65 (you can try, but it won't work). Use the HackMii Installer to install The Homebrew Channel, but you can't downgrade (yet).
    No cIOS required!

    1) Unpack the archive attached.
    2) Do a full backup of your SD card on the PC, and DELETE everything from the card.
    3) Copy BannerBomb to the SD card.
    4) Copy the content of the "SD Root" folder in the archive to the root of the SD card.
    5) On the Wii, launch boot.dol using BannerBomb, then go to "downgradetools" in the SD and choose notDVDX34.dol. Pick "Downgrade IOS35", wait for it to end and come back to the menu, then exit.
    - If it says that "you're a pirate" delete also all your VC/WiiWare pirated channels (with AnyTitle Deleter or WAD Manager), execute NandClean.dol, choose to delete "dvdx 3.4's gift" and try again grog.gif
    6) Launch PatchMii IOS Downgrader.dol, you may need to launch it from LoadMii 1 or 2 times, until it's completed wink2.gif
    7) When it says "IOS 249 (Rev 5) loaded successfully", install all of the IOSes except IOS35 (with trucha patch). If you want, you can also install System Menu 3.2 or 4.0, but MAKE SURE that its IOS has been installed correctly:
    - System Menu 3.2 requires IOS30;
    - System Menu 4.0 requires IOS60.

Note: The cIOS that is now installed on your console doesn't have "backup loading" capabilities, use cIOS Installer by Waninkoko to get this. Or many of the other packages available.
now i have black screen plz help
