Hi all,
I have an old(er) GC2-D2C (v1) Wii.
A few years ago I soldered a Infectus Argon directly onto the SMT chips!
Was happy playing the odd backup etc. Then sortuv lost interest.
... until I saw WiiCoverFlow. (circa Jan 09)
I think at that time I was on 3.4 or maybe 4.0.
Started messing around with the soft modding.
TwilightHack to get HomeBrew on there, etc.
I was never really managed to get WiiCoverFlow working.
But was happy to load up .wad files, and was able to get other USB loaders (sortuv working).
Recently I saw USB Loader GX mentioned on LifeHacker

I had to get this working...
Tried the walkthru here

But no real joy
Updated from 4.0 to 4.1, same issues... seemed that USBloaderGX keeps going to black screen when loading games.
Found the above walkthru here on WiiHacks, and so gave it a try.
However, same issue: USBloader GX going to black screen.
Then I ran the 4.1 Safe update, even though I was on 4.1 and managed to semi-brick, or "banner brick" the wii. :-(
bit of stress there... was able to get into PreLoader and Bootmii, and had a backup, etc
but Bootmii keeps thinking my NAND backup is from another wii...
(I've since done a backup and immediate restore and same issue... not sure why it does this)
managed to get out of banner brick by reinstalling PreLoader. Thank god.
(I think the safe 4.1 update must have removed the ISO 60 patched, thus the brick.. so when i reinstalled IOS 60 patch plus PreLoader it worked... no idea really as I am at the merci of all these forums and walk thrus etc...)
ANYWAY... the reason I am writing is that I finally managed to get USB Loader GX working and RESOLVED.
I basically formatted the wii back to default settings via the normal Wii Settings menu.
4.1 still booted, even though i've thoroughly been wedging it with cIOSes, patches, bricks, etc...
after the "format", i followed above walkthru very carefully, etc and now USB loader GX has stopped going to black screen on game loads.
Now just have to patiently transfer all those images i've been keeping over the years to the WBMS drive.
and hope my non-techincal friends are impressed, when/if they ever see it work...
good luck!
