From my research... you are correct. The savemiifree hack is pretty much the same thing.

Hi guys i was wondering if someone could help me sort my wii problem out.

I have a version 4.0E wii with no bootmii or preloader installed (yes i know just how stupid that seems now ) which was working exceptionally well untill i tried to install a wad file for 'a boy and his blob', this has now caused my wii to exhibit the behaviour of getting to the health screen and being able to press A but locking up at a black screen just after that.

apart from this i'm having real problems booting from the AutoBoot disks, i have a Wiikey v1 installed and it was working fine before the wad installation. i can do the SaveMiiFrii hack and get to the screen showing the firmware but it won't boot from any autoboot 'unbrick' disks, it will however start to boot from my original games and my backup copies but after the firmware screen goes off it stops at a black screen and won't go any further.

i know i was a bit of a tit to not install preloader or bootmii (believe me i'm paying handsomely for that mistake now) but i was really hoping someone could give me some good news as i know that all i need to do is be able to simply delete that crappy wad file and it would be as right as rain.

That doesn't sound good. If you've read any of my recent posts on this thread... it sounds like we have a similar situation. I haven't read anyone in our situation getting out of it.

At this point, I fear we have 2 options.
1. Rip out our mod chips and send it into Nintendo. For about $90US, they will do everything they can to fix/repair my Wii while keeping my data. But, they don't make any promises. It does sound like they'd send back a working Wii no matter what. I didn't ask how they'd feel about working on it after it has obviously been opened already.

2. I've seen on the SaveMii troubleshooing page, that we may have to wait for a game to be released with a 4.2 system menu update. I suppose 4.1 would be OK for you. I'm dealing with a bricked 4.1u here... I banner bricked mine and feel that I possibly installed a WAD that may have been a Euro or JPN region WAD which is causing the problem...

I followed the Banner Brick chart but I can't get any autoboot disk to work. I still need to try DVD-R media... I only have DVD+R. But I'm not keeping my hopes up.

So, I jumped to Full Brick and followed Yes, Yes.
