I own F-Zero GX, so I wish I could help you with your issue, but I've no idea...

BTW, to use Neogamma for what you were trying to do, you need to install a custom MIOS, and said custom MIOS borked with DIOS MIOS last time I tried (then again I was never able to get DIOS MIOS properly working no matter what I tried).

Already aware of this, in fact this is all the farther I ever got since after that I believe I shorted out my Wii's component output. I do not actually have a full-on component cable to test with nor do I even know anyone that has one that I can quickly test with.

Nevertheless it isn't a big deal because my TV shares composite and component on a single physical input plug and you have to go into the TV's settings menus to toggle the input between composite and component. So for preserving my (and my family's) sanity it's better to just stick with composite.

However, my TV actually has a VGA input that we no longer use, and I know that there are Wii VGA cables - but they only work with a progressive signal which is why I was asking about what Devolution does when you try to launch a 480i-only game and your Wii is set to 480p.

    System Check

I've used your guide and zip files to play backup gamecube games on wii. I did everything according to your instructions, even had my daughter (university master student AI) check if hdd/iso files/usbloader settings etc met your instructions. They did but still, together we did it a second time (checked and double checked) every step. Used different loaders, different obtained iso files from original disc, hdd as wel as sd for backups. All with the same result: black screen when inserting original disc to verify iso. Used Pimp my Wii 3.0 to perform test and solve problems: everything ok

Can't figure out what causes the problem,

    Spoiler

Post a SysCheck, I can tell you one big mistake is using Pimp My Wii, many users have problems with that. You might have a messed up system IOS or several.

I do have a question - why do people install so much stuff when Devolution only requires Wii Menu 4.3 and the Homebrew Channel? And even for Wii USB loader stuff doesn't it only need a single cIOS installed and that's it?

Generally for USB loading, nine times out of ten you use cIOS 249. In some cases, you need to use a Hermes cIOS due to USB Mic or also works well for dual layered discs. Or other odd titles use different base (250 for Just Dance 2014, for example). We maintain a list of problematic games that may require the use of an alternative cIOS or alternative load technique.

Devolution doesn't require menu 4.3. I'm on 4.1 and Devo works perfect.

And, as I suspected, his cIOSs are indeed messed up. He should mod his Wii for real by using the ANY Wii guide in my signature.

The real issue is his first sentence above is the answer to his second sentence above. Bad move. PIMP MY WII = BRICK MY WII.

But Devolution requires IOS58 and that comes bundled with menu 4.3. Yes you can download IOS58 separately but I'm able to use both Wii and GC USB loading on 4.3 just fine anyway...

Personally I still think that guide is way overkill for just USB loading... Then again, I believe in a more "keep it simple stupid" methodology of "less is more".

I have never been on anything above 4.2, I just used our Softmod ANY Wii guide and that gave me a perfect set of IOSs and cIOSs.

If I spelled something wrong, I'll just blame it on auto-correct

I'm not sure if your responding to my (Karzia's) system check, I posted earlier (i'm a 50+ woman and mother, not a man) but if you are: thank you very much for your help. I hope I will be able to correct earlier mistakes.
