If used with a USB loader the games can be pretty much anywhere as long as you the loader where to find them in the custom paths. The path you specified is only required by the basic loader.

I personally have my games set in USB/GameCube/GAMEID/GAMEID.ISO. USB Loader GX sees and plays then just find with Devolution. I believe his problems is something else cause he stated that USB Loader isn't even recognizing his HDD.

Post a SysCheck, you could have a botched IOS.

Thanks for creating this thread, SNES_Master. After ages of wanting to, I've finally backed up my small collection of 14 Gamecube games to my HDD.

I probably should have read it better, but it took me ages of going back and forth on this guide though. Initially because the Google search result to this thread loads the page without any forum assets, so there are no spoiler buttons etc. to reveal the instructions, at which page I kept thinking the page was broken. Eventually made my way to this forum page somehow.

As a CFG user though, I think the guide could have some additions/changes and I have some questions, if I may:

    - I already had CFG loader, so when I downloaded your version linked here and installed it, I couldn't get CFG Loader to run. It kept saying IOS 249 is a stub. Eventually I made my way to the GAF Wii Homebrew page which has a CFG guide, and that instructed me to replace the meta.xml file with another, at which point it worked.

    - I downloaded CleanRip and ripped my first GC game, but I couldn't get it to work even though I loaded the HDD on my machine first and renamed the folder appropriately as instructed. CFG Loader couldn't see the game. I then used CFG Loader to rip the game and it worked fine. I was able to download the cover and then set the global option for Devolution to 'on' and then start and verify the game.

    - For some reason, despite setting the global option for Devolution to 'on', it won't start my ripped GC games straight away. I have to go into each game option separately and switch the option on. I double-checked that I saved the 'on' setting on the global options, which confirmed that it is indeed on. A bit strange, but it's not that bad as I have a small collection. I could see this being a hassle if you have a massive collection of games though. Has anyone else come across this issue?

    - Do users need to download the CFG Loader you've linked here? As in, is there anything special about this version that makes all of this work, or is it possible to just use the latest version from the Google code download page? If not, I think the instructions for CFG Loader users could be made more simple:

    1. Download and install the latest CFG Loader
    2. Switch Devolution setting to 'on' in global settings for CFG Loader, save
    3. Rip Gamecube game using CFG Loader (as you would a Wii game)
    4. Turn Devolution setting to 'on' in the game's settings
    5. Run game from CFG Loader and insert disc for verification when the blue light flashes. Once the game loads, you can remove the disc.

Finally, any instructions here on how I can move my games over to Wii U once I eventually own one, since that doesn't accept Gamecube discs so can't verify by inserting the disc in the system?

Thanks once again, awesome guide - most appreciated.

You actually could've just taken the loader.bin included in my download and copied to your SD card and that would've worked, as mentioned in the Q&A part

As for the Wii U section, I plan to get that started as soon as I hack mine but at this point I can't give an eta in when that will happen.

I will try to answer more of your questions later but I'm a bit pressed for time right now. I will also have to look into what you mentioned about CFG Loader not seeing your games till you edited the meta.xml. I find that very odd, my friend used my CFG attachment to overwrite his previous version of it and had no problems after setting the custom paths. Is it possible this could've been a error with the site loading for you? As you did mention google wasn't showing spoilers when you loaded it from there, or could you have accidentally missed a step?

In any case, I'll look over all that info more thoroughly later tonight. Thank you for the suggestions and questions

Edit: You can find some quick and very useful info the readme (written by tueidj) supplied in the download. Tueidj explains in that readme some details I have not yet included in the guide, most specifically, details on using games on Wii U and using alternative controllers such as a PS3 controller.

It's also probably important to note that tueidj himself has voiced that CFG loader is "buggy".

Thanks for following up. What I meant about CFG Loader was not that it couldn't see my list of games, but that it wouldn't start up properly after I installed the download from your link. The start up screen would come up and then an error message would say that 'IOS 249 is a stub', and then nothing would happen. I went here:

    External Link Removed

I installed USB Loader for the first time so long ago that I forgot there are two steps. You need to download as instructed but then need to go through the meta.xml step otherwise it won't work. So your one is fine, except I had to download the meta.xml file off that site and then overwrite the one in apps/usb-loader/meta.xml. I hope this made sense.

Thanks once again. It's so nice to have my GC games available on a HDD, perhaps I'll play them more often. At the very least, I'm ready to try and beat my personal record for Palm Bay Heights in Burnout 2.

Well, glad it's working for you

And I love the Burnout games...I just wish Burnout 3 made it to GCN

Did you use our Softmod ANY Wii guide (found in my signature)? If not, you should do so.

once i found this site, i reflashed my wii exactly from that same guide in your sig. i even posted that i had an unusual quirk regarding that installation that when im in the HBC i dont have the BOOTMII link. but i know it installed because it said it did during the install when i installed hbc.

If you only want to run Devolution, you don't even need to install anything other than the Homebrew channel. You may however need an updated 4.3 Wii Menu and IOS58 (which comes with menu 4.3 anyway).

It's very possible that you essentually installed "too much" to the point that Devolution isn't liking it - for example Devolution doesn't like modchips.

This isn't true. The sample loader only accept game located in root://games/game.iso and that's it - no subfolders or anything. It's Maxternal's sample loader mod that supports reading from root://games/GAMEID/gameid.iso along ISOs just sitting in the "games" folder.

You're right, my mistake. I shouldn't post when I'm tired lol.

Yes, the basic loader only reads games stored as /games/game.iso where "game.iso" can be named however you want it.

I believe I meant to say CFG Loader it capable of only seeing games/GameID/game.iso.

If I spelled something wrong, I'll just blame it on auto-correct
