Ok so I got it working. I was able to get my classic controller and PS3 controller to work.

Even in the basic loader the button mapping is set to resemble a gamecube controller and does not follow the letters on the controller. Basically the loader tells you to press X to mount USB but to do that you have to press the A button on the classic controller, I would assume this is the same on a procontroller but I don't have one.

    normal
    YX
    BA

    Gamecube
    BY
    AX

The button mapping makes sense for gameplay but is confusing in the loader.

Tested Mario sunshine. The classic controller is messed up for light trigger presses. R1 is mapped to Z and R2 and L2 are the triggers, but you can only press them all the way (click them). This means there is no way to squirt water while running with this controller. On the PS3 controller its mapped the same and that analog function works, but something is a bit off, it seems to be harder to squirt and run and the stream sputters out way faster than when using a gamecube controller....maybe its just me.

I seen mention of being able to change the button mapping....any idea how to do that?

So while this is cool, wavebird still seems the best way to go for me.

You could get a GC to Classic Con adapter

But as said, unless you will be playing on a nonGC Wii or a Wii U there isn't really much point.

I don't think an adapter would add analog to the triggers, could be wrong though as I thing the original classic had them( I only have classic pro version)

From what I understand when your using a CC, CCP, Wii U ProCon or even a PS3 controller it works like this:

    L(1)/R(1) = light press

    ZL/ZR (L2/R2) = full press

I could be misunderstanding that though.
But yeah, as you've pointed out with a GC to CC adapter I don't think it would work with analog presses.

I wish you were right since that's what I'd prefer, but you're wrong. On a CCpro, ZL & ZR are mapped to GC full-press L & R while the CCpro's R button is mapped to the GC's Z button.

Also Devolution seems to support the analog shoulder buttons that were on the original classic controller, but I need to do more testing.

yeah that would be my preference too, map the z button to the minus button or something. It usually functions to bring up a menu anyway.

For one thing I really dislike how the L button is dedicated to mapping the right stick to analog L & R. In particular, if you accidentally press that button in an FPS game, you're pretty much committing suicide. I personally would have liked it to be just a second Z button as an alternate layout to the one SNES_Master mentioned.

How does that work? If you press and hold L your analog sticks function as the L and R triggers? Left stick L and right stick R? Does any direction act as the trigger press?

It maps only the right stick to analog L & R, with up being one button and down being the other.

Hmm, maybe in a future update to either Devolution or USB Loader GX we'll get some options to customize?

Edit: Also want to let everyone know, I'll be working on this guides text today. I updated all the attachments yesterday, today I will work on the text as well to accommodate for the new controller compatibility. I may not finish the update today but I will be working on it in Wordpad, so it will be updated very soon.

Edit 2: Just was thinking about suggesting this on the USB Loader GX google code page, but if there was some way to manager Devolution's Memcard.bin in the Wii itself (rather than using Dolphin on a PC as you must now) I think that would be extremely handy. Think how many people out there sold their GC's to get Wii's and sold those to get Wii U's, wouldn't it be nice if they could launch a Homebrew app and manage the emulated GC memory card on the system itself? Just a thought, maybe it's impossible...
