If it's only the analog stick cap-thing, you can replace them with those from a classic controller and/or nunchuck. There's no soldering or modding required - all you have to do is open up your controller and the analog stick cap-thing can be slid right off the actual analog shaft-thing.

Hey guys. I'm a bit confused about installing Devolution. I understand it's a software thing and not like a MIOS you have to install like DIOS MIOS. Also, I noticed in the What's New Update History Spoiler it says "Updated to Devolution r196 (all loader attachments)" so I assumed that meant that Devolution was bundled with all the different loaders that the guide links to. So anyway, I want to use Devolution with USB Loader GX so I downloaded the USB Loader GX from the link in the guide. I expected to see the USB Loader GX files along with some other files labeled Devolution but nothing labeled as Devolution was there and it looked like only USB Loader GX files. Does that mean that Devolution is built into USB Loader GX somehow? And if that is true does that mean if I want to update USB Loader GX or Devolution to the latest releases that they would need to be compiled into each other? Thanks.

You're only half right. When I said "Updated to Devolution r196 (all loader attachments)" I do indeed mean that Devolution is included in each attachment for the loader. Devolution is not actually built into the loader though. If you look in the USB Loader GX download you got from this guide you should see a file in there called "loader.bin", this loader.bin is devolution. Without that your USB loader GX will not be able to load your GC games.

To update one or the other, you can wait for me to upload the newest versions to the attachment and I'll make a post to let everyone know when I do that. Or, optionally, you can get the updated versions from their respective sources. Please note that the USB Loader GX builds that enable Devolution support are still beta so using the built in update will not work (cause the app won't update betas). For Devolution there's no choices between how to update, the only way (using USB GX) is to download the latest loader.bin using your PC. Once downloaded just copy/paste and overwrite the old one.

Ok. I get it. I guess I overlooked the loader.bin file thinking it was part of USB Loader GX.

So you say to update both I would have to download both updated files from their respective sources. Where are the official places to get the most up to date version? I did a lot of searching and I think I found them on my own but I still just want to make sure.

It looks like the place to grab the latest release for USB Loader GX is on their code.google page under Issue 1769. I scrolled all the way down the page and near the bottom saw a mediafire link to their latest release of r1215 already compiled. Which is great because I know nothing about source code or how to compile it myself.

As for Devolution, a found a forum post on GBATemp for "Devolution - Public Release". (I won't link to that thread because I think I remember seeing that linking to other forums is against the rules. Correct me if I'm wrong and I will edit this post with the link to the GBATemp post). The first post to that thread has 2 links to tueidj's website. One for a file called gc_devo.zip and the other for gc_devo_src.zip. I couldn't find anything labled as loader.bin in the gc_devo.zip file but I did find it in the gc_devo_src.zip file. I checked the meta.xml file in the zip and saw that this is r197 created on 5/23/13 so I'm assuming this is the latest version.

So to make a long story short, if those are in fact the 2 best places to get the latest releases, then all I have to do is extract the latest boot.dol for USB Loader GX and the latest loader.bin for Devolution and place them both in the usbloader_gx folder inside the apps folder, correct?

Correct. If I have not yet updated the guide (which you'll be able to tell by the spoiler at the top) then this is the way you would update both, USB Loader GX and Devolution.

FYI, you can download the newest Devolution release from the compatibility wiki as well.

Hey man nice guide, i just have a couple of questions, i usb cfg usb loader and it does have the option NMM for devolution, but i also still use my 16MB memory card i had for my GC, if i turn on NMM should i take out my memory card? most of my saves are on my memory card but its full and i cant store anymore games so im wondering about using NMM, if i did backup my game saves using the attached file you have, i would have to enable nmm on every game for it to find the save files correct?

Yes, I had one of my cards corrupt because I accidentally used emulated memory and a physical card at the same time. Granted, this was on a older revision and may have entirely been a fluke, it doesn't hurt to be cautious (hence my warning in the guide).

As for enabling the NMM for devolution yes, with CFG Loader it must be enabled on a game by game basis. So far only USB Loader GX has the ability to turn it on globally (ie turn it on in the main settings and have it turn on for all games).

Thanks for the info, guess ill back up my game saves now, no point using a memory card if i cant have all saves on it but ill still keep it, now the most painful choice... SD or USB lol
you also might want to add that in devolution with CFG usb loader, theres an option for no disc to be enabled if you want to play it without a disc. and for me, the first time you start a gamecube rip on cfg once you enable devolution in its settings, it will restart the wii, then you have to go back into cfg loader again and then it will run fine

uh i have another problem, i didnt download devolution the normal way, it came with an update via cfg usb loader, i dont have the USB/apps/gc_devo folder
i also have a memcard.bin file in the usbloader file though and im afraid to replace it because it might be my wii saves (or does cfg usb loader load from your wii?)

Please do not double post. Use the edit button until 24hrs has passed.

USB/apps/gc_devo is only for the basic loader. Memcard.bin should be in the usbloader folder as detailed in this guide. You can replace it with a new Memcard.bin containing all of your saves from your memory card, just follow the guide to do so.

You seem to be confused as to what the no disc function is for and why devolution needs a disc, no disc, initially, was for Dios Mios and was used to trick the system to thinking you were using a actual disc when really it was loading from USB. This is feature is now obsolete and should be left off. When you first run a game with Devolution you will need the disc to verify the game only one time. Any other time after that the disc is not required and there does not need to be a disc in the system. If you have a disc in the drive, take it out.
