try a different browser. They do weird things with frames and subpages and some browsers have problems where it works fine on others.

hi there its been a while since i have been on this site and seen that you are able to run gc games off a hdd. now i have a couple of questions before i do these mods to my wii.

    1) the emulated nand is to run vc and wii ware games off the hdd? n do i just need to copy the nand and key files to the hdd that i got from the orig mod back a few yrs ago or do i need to do the extraction stuff in this guide first?

    2) do i need to reformat my hdd to fat 32 w/ the 32 byte clusters cause i think its setup at the moment as ntfs from the orig mod i did back a few yrs ago in order to run the gc games from it?

I can't answer 1, since I know nothing about how to use emulated NANDs. But this thread's guide is where you'd learn more information on that.

    For #2:

yes: FAT32 with 32k clusters is a requirement for GameCube USB Loading. The three known methods of doing so: Dios Mios, Devolution, and Nontendont (which I don't think we fully endorse yet, only because we've never tried it), all require it.

Guides to Dios Mios and Devlolution set up and use are linked in my signature.

For emunand, yes, it's for running VC and WiiWare off a HDD. You need to extract the NAND backup to it. I believe we have a guide to set up emunand. Give me a bit to find the link.

If I spelled something wrong, I'll just blame it on auto-correct

tnx for the above info and i have decided to skip the nand emulation as really my son doesnt play much wii ware of vc titles and after reading through 30 some odd pages it stated somewhere that u get the same amount of space as the real nand.

so i installed dios mios 2.11 w/ wad manager 1.7, only thing is i installed it on ios240, i think, cause i didnt have the option of 236 and it seems to work. my mod is from around 2008/2009. usb loader gx ripped windwaker to the hdd and loaded it and seemed to play fine for the amount of time i tested it.

thing is when i stuck the gc disc into the wii while on the wii menu the system frooze and i had to hard reset it, what would be causing that? i dont have any of my wii discs to test out @ the moment, packed away, to see if those freeze up the system also. only way the gc disc work was if i had usb gx loaded first then stuck in the game disc.

If you have an old mod, we'd suggest you make it current by going through Softmod Any Wii guide. All of our other guides assume you've followed this guide, first.

That guide is linked in my signature.

not to sound like an ass but i really dont want to re mod the wii. i like it the way it is w/ not too much software installed on it via the mod. is there just a way to update the ios's only?

actually looking through the softmod guide i found a ios236 zip file. could i just install that via hbc and then just reinstall dios mios v2.11?

If you adopt the philosophy of "a little of this, and a little of that" --- that's a recipe for fail. Just because you don't like the advice, it doesn't follow it's not sound or logical advice. The guide --- if you read it --- gives you options on updating your softmod. The guide hardly installs "bloatware," after all (which is what your indirect/veiled reference would imply).

If you want to keep your apps and other data on the SD Card, that's fine. Use another card to remod the system or back up the data and restore it when you're done.

As nightstah said, those who cherry-pick system objects have the worst problem with compatibility, which is why our guide doens't so that. It's an all-or-nothing sort of mod. Everything gets replaced with versions that we recommend.

With your system already modded, and if you still have a viable NAND backup, remodding it will take 15 min tops.

im just saying that over the past 6yrs that the wii has been modded i have had no trouble w/ it. my priiloader, hbc and usb loader gx are up to date and the 93 games on my hdd all work fine. im just wanting to get gc games to work and didnt have the 236 ios op to install dios mios too and i just cant play the orig gc disc in the wii cause it will freeze now, which i might just have to install the mios again according to the dios mios guide. so im fine w/ just getting the 236 ios installed and w/ both of you really not saying to do it, im taking it as being ok if i install the 236 zip i found in that guide.

but if i do go ahead w/ the remodding again how would i get rid of all the stuff that i wont want, like the bannerbomb channel, neogamma, wiiflow, the new usb gx and lastly the black hbc channel? those all appeared on a friends wii when i modded theirs for them using that guide. all i need on the sys is what i have on it now, really would like to only update the ios's .
