He was probably using the "official 3.0" which was May 2012.

Most likely, that's a common mistake. But at least his issue is resolved now

If I spelled something wrong, I'll just blame it on auto-correct

Hey Guys, I followed the guide quite some time ago and had everything working. Now I updated my softmod, and I can't get usb loader gx to boot up. It hangs on "Loading...initialize usb device" forever. I'm using usbloader gx r1217 with dios mios 2.10. Sorry, I'm a little rusty with my wii needs...been playing with Android for too long Is this something that would need a sys check?

I would. It could be as simple as plugging the HDD into the wrong port (laying down=bottom port, standing up looking from behind=right hand side) but it would hurt to see a SysCheck.

    Spoiler

Here goes the sys check. I had the plug in the wrong port. So I put it in the correct port (the one NOT closest to the edge), and now usb loader doesn't recognize the device. I used the ios 249 usbloader gx one...is that the correct one? Also, just for clarification, I did the syscheck after switching usb ports. So that syscheck is with the cable in the correct port.
Also, I know my hard drive is compatible and formatted properly, as I was already using it, it's just been about a year.

Are you using a Wii or a Wii U? I see you have Homebrew Channel 1.1.2 which is meant for Wii U's vWii, if you're using a old Wii you should be using HBC 1.1.0.

And again, just to reiterate, the HDD should in the BOTTOM port if your system is laying down and the RIGHTHAND port if standing up and viewed from behind, just to be sure that is clear cause it sounds like you misunderstood. Another thing you should do is make sure you're using the latest version of your USB loader. You can check GX's revision number by clicking settings, going to page 4 and clicking credits. It will tell you in the top right corner what revision and what IOS your loader uses.

He's using a regular Wii and that's def wrong HBC. He also said he's using R1217 release of GX. His description of which port he's using... well, that I'm not so sure LOL

Ok....well I originally softmodded my wii about 2 years ago with Microwave Sams tutorial on youtube. At the time I didnt know about this site. I have since found out about it and been using it for information. Now I wanted to update the softmod and bring everything current. I softmodded with the "softmod any wii" tutorial, and followed the instructions for a wii which has been previously softmodded. The strange this is when I click on the homebrew channel, and then press home to get to the menu in homebrew, it tells me my version is 1.1.0. So I'm not sure what's up with that. What do I do to fix?
I am using usbloader gx revision r1217. I got the link from @llaffer signature a few posts above mine.
About the usb port...that's how long its been! I was originally using the right one and switched it. Now I'm back at the proper one. Sorry about the confusion of which one I was using but I felt that was a pretty good explaination. There is two ports, on borders the wii one does not. Any way, when your looking at the back of the wii, I now have the drive plugged into the port on the right. When I boot up usbloader gx, it hangs on "initialize usb device". Where next?
Oh, and thanks for your help!

Edit-Got it working. For some reason if I open wiiXplorer and browse the usb drive, then I can open usbloader gx without issues. don't know why that is but it's a fix.
I still need to get to the bottom of this homebrew channel issue though.
    Thanks

The reason this is happening probably has to do with the ehci modules in d2x v8. Sounds like WiiXplorer (since it uses IOS58, not d2x) spins up the drive and then immediately the drive is accessible. A fix for this was put forth in d2x v9. I suggest you install d2x v9, link to the guide is below in my sig. Give that a shot and let us know how it works!
