My install of both is working flawlessly. GX rips as well. The problem is either the rip, your hdd or your softmod.

Hmm.. well I've tested with both a bus powered and AC powered usb hdd. Both had been used for hbc in the past without problems until I outgrew them. What I'm reading seems to indicate GC loads are more finicky about choice of hdd, though. I'll try ripping something else from known compatible list and post up a syscheck as well.

The boot.dol is r1208. When I sub in r1180 it wants to copy to SD. When running the game it either crashes and shuts down the wii or I get "app-entry is not within the apploader area" from dios mios.
It appears you're loading USB Loader GX from the USB drive with your games on it? Out of curiosity, what would have happen if you loader USB Loader GX from an SD card?

How do you choose where it loads from?

Same result. Going to do what BL suggested and pick up a usb stick for testing. Reading threads from various sources this solution strikes me as still half baked. Maybe a little more time in the oven would do well for stability and my sanity.

    Put it under USB/apps/usbloadergx

Then in HBC have it display the apps on your USB device (press 1 to choose between SD & USB)

And how do you dictate whether usb loader gx installs wiiware to the hdd vs. the sd card?

I'm not sure what you mean, just dump your NAND to EmuNAND and all your WiiWare will be on SD (as far as I know EmuNAND can only be loaded from SD when using USB GX)

You can set the path to your emulated nand in settings.
