It may not work from USB because of the settings and CFG files so keep the apps folder only on the SD card. Both my Wii works without the SD card but I do not recommend it.

Still haven't had any luck, although there hasn't really been anything new to try at this point.
One thing I did notice is that all of the P/N's posted for the hard drive by everyone else have ended with -01. Mine ends in -00.
This makes me think that maybe I have an old revision or something but I'm finding it difficult to find information about this.

It's no guarantee but you could try Devolution and see if that works for you.

Yeah, I guess it is worth a shot. I just didn't want to deal with the whole disc verification thing.

That's really only a problem if your disc drive is broke though. You verify the games once and they'll be good to go after that.

Devolution works without any issues, which isn't surprising because it runs everything in wii mode.
Had to reformat the drive because something went wrong while ripping another game (may have been because I had an old version of cleanrip).
Tried using Dios Mios again and it still didn't work, same issue with the HDDcutting off briefly when dios mios tries to boot up.
I would still like to try to get dios mios working, just so I have the option in the event that my disc drive dies. Always nice to have redundancy.

I still think that the problem is centered around the HDD rebooting, and by that I mean this is not something it should be doing. It almost seems like the port loses power for a second which my drive detects as the system cutting off, or the usb cable being disconnected which causes the drive to automatically power off. Then when the power returns a second latter it turns back on since it detects this as the usb cable being connected. Unfortunately there is no way to disable this feature of the HDD as far as I am aware. That being said there is no reason the usb port should lose power for any amount of time right?

As much as I appreciate the video, it would be way more useful to have a full view of the HDD, particularly the light on it to see if the HDD acts the same way as mine when you launch stuff.

Pretty sure if you've read the guide, you should have the answer to this. Wishful thinking will not change an answer you should be well aware of.

I could see the light perfectly, thank you.
Your HDD functions the way I would expect it to. Mine, despite appearing to be the same HDD but having a different P/N shuts down after clicking on a gamecube game and hitting start.
To be more specific, my HDD functions exactly as yours does up until the part directly after you click to start wind waker. At this point the HDD light flashes briefly and then the HDD shuts down, turning back on immediately after and leaving me stuck at the black "transition screen".
I have absolutely no idea why this happens but it happens with every version of dios mios. If this description is confusing I can try and get a video of it just so it makes more sense.
