Part of that might be due to the slower speed of the SD card. Which class is it? Try another class card (class 10 is fastest), or try DM with a hard drive.
Alright, so I've been having some issues with my wii. I was able to run gamecube backups a few days ago. I ended up making the mistake of using Pimp My Wii thinking I could use it to play wii backups. Long story short I made a mistake and ended up getting a ton of error messages when trying to run Wiiflow. I downloaded ModMii to basicly rehack the system and reinstalled Wiiflow and followed the tips on how to get the game to run on my usb hard drive. When I go to load the game I get a black screen, no dios mios flash, no system reset. I've tried variations of settings and nothing seems to work.
I am running 4.3u and my wii is a first batch wii from early 2007 with DM 2.9 and wiiflow (newest one).
If anybody would be willing to help me, I'd be most grateful.
Redid something as opposed to redid something right can be the difference between WIN! and FAIL
Let's see what the um, solution ModMii did in your case --- post a SysCheck as a reply to this thread. Directions on where to get it and how to do it can be found here. Don't get me wrong, ModMii is an excellent tool... but in a novice's hand, sometimes unintended consequences (I don't mean BRICK MY WII results, like "Pimp My Wii" can cause --- never use that tool --- ever).

Alright here it is, I've noticed a few things that are kinda surprising. For starters it shows that I'm not running 4.3u but instead 4.2u, I'm not entirely sure how I downgraded the os firmware, could have been pimp my wii or miimod.

Okay, I can't get this to work for the life of me. I've formatted two USB drives as fat32 with 32kb clusters, and Dios Mios booter reads them fine. But once I click on a game, I get a black screen, not even the Dios Mios splash screen. I end up having to unplug my Wii. Also used an SD Card and it too reads the game, but I get the same black screen. I've installed DM 2.9 using IOS247, and also IOS236 (I borked IOS236, prompting me to first use 247, but then I fixed 236 and went back and installed DM2.9 using 236).
A tonload of applications (pretty much all of them) seem to be booting off of IOS58, which I do recall installing a cIOS to that slot a very long time ago, but now I have no idea how to make other applications stop using 58.
No matter what I do, no matter if I use WiiFlow or Dios Mios booter, they always launch to a black screen. What could I be doing wrong? I really want to play my old GameCube games. I noticed I'm going to have a problem with retail games, so I just dumped them and now have copies of those on my computer.
Can anyone assist me?
Edit; Before anyone says do a syscheck, it hangs while testing for IOS vulnerabilities, possibly because IOS254 or another IOS isn't vulnerable, and syscheck apparently just hangs when it fails a vulnerability test. Looking for another version of syscheck, because I know I've done it before.
