    Are you plugged into the outer-most port (near the edge?) or the inner port (closer to the middle of the system?)

    You should be in the outer-most port.

    I'm confused, since if it's laying flat, there is no "top" or "bottom", they are left/right of each other.

    It is the closer to the disc drive. When you lay the wii down on it's belly, or in the horizantal position it is the first USB port. Closest to the top of the machine. My ports are horizontal in this position with gc controller ports to the the right if you are facing the back of the machine. Basically, the machine is not on it's side.

    ok. I guess it's been so long since I've seen the back of my Wii, I forgot how it's configured.

    Yes. it should be the bottom.

    No, it's the first series of wii's. Got it on release date. Facing the back, the ports are on the right

    Well, I've seen plenty of people before that say "it should be plugged in the usb port that is closest to the middle"

    What is the deal with that? It is either top/bottom, or left/right.
