Hmm. It seems to me that the only solution to it is somehow changing the settings of your USB controller. For example, others have had problems where their USB turns off 30 minutes into a game consistently. For you, it turns off instantly. Interestingly, for the same exact HDD, candylove does not have this problem, and your HDD is in mbr format too. I will do a little searching through this thread to see how that was solved.

From what I know, I can change the settings with the WD software, however they wouldn't effect this particular situation. I already have it set to never turn off.
The only explanation I have for it occurring is that somehow the HDD is detecting that the wii is no logner connected for a brief moment since the HDD turns off then back on and had a feature where it automatically does this based on when it is plugged in/ unplugged. This is not something I can change.

EDIT: I noticed on the compatibility thread someone posted a western digital drive that is 2TB. They put "WDBACW0020HBK-00" as the model number but this is actually the P/N. The same P/N I have.
They all have a problem with gamecube games.
Everyone who has this hard drive but has P/N "WDBACW0020HBK-01" reports it as working with gamecube games. My guess is that the 00 version is an older revision and whatever it is that causes it to shut down was fixed in the new revision.

DIOS MIOS (DM) Format your USB devices 1st primary partition to FAT32 with 32KB cluster size or less. DM is looking on USB port 0 first, so if it takes a long time for the splash screen to appear, connect your device to the other port. If no splash screen appears at all, your HDD (usually the USB controller device is at fault not the HDD itself) is probably not supported. Slow HDDs seem to prove problematic for the faster extracted file (FST) format, so try .ISO first.
I just get a black screen (no DIOS MIOS splash screen)
Chances are high that your USB2IDE device isn't supported.

    • Assure that your HDD is formatted with FAT32, no other FS is supported.
    • Only cluster sizes 32KB or less are supported.
    • Only 2TB drives or less are supported.
    • The FAT32 partition MUST be the first primaly partition on the HDD, otherwise it will not work.
    • If all the above are ok try another USB2IDE device or wait for an update.

After reading this it's usually your USB controller device at fault not the HDD itself.
You said you had to reformat the drive because something went wrong while ripping the game with cleanrip maybe the USB controller device at fault maybe WD change (fixed) the USB controller with my HDD maybe both our HDD is the same and the USB controller is different or your USB controller is just faulty.

I'll have to look into it. I tried researching it before but it was hard to find info. I'll update this post if I find anything.

EDIT: So far I can't determine if there was a revision that improved the USB controller, but WD external hard drives do have a history of having usb controller failures.

Usb HDD Compatibility List For DIOS MIOS

Very interesting WD HDD P/N WDBACW0020HBK-01 works with Dios Mios and WD P/N WDBACW0020HBK-00 does not work with Dios Mios and both are the same WD HDD, I have 01 version and it works perfect with all HB, Wii games, GC games, WiiMC, Wiiware, VC and it works without a SD card too, I use it everyday and I have no issues with it. Hope the USB controller does not fail but it it does I may just replace the USB controller.

It shouldn't fail. I feel like most people that report hardware failures either got unlucky, since something is bound to go wrong eventually when you pump out thousands of units or don't handle things properly.
My usb controller is fine it just appears that whatever they changed when they switched to the 01 version causes it to work better with dios mios.

I'll probably end up either getting a larger memory card or trying to find a decent smaller HDD to use with dios mios. In the mean time I can use dios mios lite or devolution.

The download for dios mios v2.10 does not seem to be working, is there another place to obtain it?

Edit: I guess I was just being impatient. It wasn't working for about 10-15 minutes prior. Anyway I apologize.

I really don't like to ask for anything, but none of the SEGA Sports games run on DML or DM. They all crash on the intro video. If they could just get past that one, single cutscene, then I wouldn't have to run them via disc. Not to mention that one of the most rare GameCube games of all time, NCAA Basketball 2K3 is unplayable because of this.

If that game (NCAA Basketball 2K3) becomes fixed/compatible, I'll paypal $20 immediately to the author that fixes it. Likely it will let NFL 2K3, NCAA Football 2K3 and NBA 2K3 work as well.

    Thanks in advance.

According to the Dios Mios game compatibility list (link on first page), Sega Soccer works, but NBA 2K3 has issues. I do not know which games are also SEGA sports games (SEGA Soccer was the only one with "SEGA" in the name), but for the games that you see on that list that have issues or are not working, that is simply the case (for that version of DM).

I assume that you have gotten DM to work for games other than SEGA sports games to prove that the fault is not with you? It is possible that it is a bad rip.
