new ps3 , looking for advice
just got a brand new ps3 yesterday at walmarts black friday sale.it is modle no. cech 3001a. firmware version 3.66 from what i am seeing on the system and what i have read on line, i am getting alot of conflicting information. First off, i had read a while back that reverse compatibility for ps1 and ps2 games was only on a few of the early modles, then Sony took that feature out. this system however just booted a ps1 game (vegrant story).
that aside can some one direct me to the best tutorial (for my modle / firmware version) to softmode / jailbreak my ps3.
another question. i have a softmoded psp. the modle i have (at the time of modding anyway) was not possible to hack, so the CFW developed for it installed directly into memory. as long as you only put it into standby the mod was always there, but if you powered off, it would go away and you have to run an app that restored it to get it back. was wondering if anything like this could be possibly made for ps3, as if you wanted to log onto PSN all you would have to do is reboot your system and be back to OFW.
and i woukld like any comments that any one has (cons or pros) for this true blue dongle i have been reading about

I don't know about the whole PS1/PS2 capability story but I believe it was removed.
You cannot softmod your PS3 (yet).
Someone will be working on a CFW for 3.73 in the next few months.
Nope. PS3 doesn't so like PSP. What you're talking about is the temporary patch. Sadly, there isn't one for PS3. All or nothing.....
Ah, the TB Dongle. I don't know much about it. My take is that it can run 3.6x games on earlier firmwares but the games still require patches. You also have to have the dongle inserted at all times. Not only that, you'd have to pay and when the 3.73 CFW is out, it'll pretty much be out of date. I could be wrong in some cases though. I'm 100% sure about needing the patches.
just a quick update on what i said about the backwards compatibility. when i was looking though the system after hooking it up. i saw an option to create ps1 / ps2 memory card images on the hdd. so i said "gota try it" closest disc to me was ps1 vagrant story. it worked. after posting this i was playing with the system and it let me make a ps1 memory card image and a ps2 memory card image gives you the option to place them both into virtual slots. and as i said before the ps1 games work. however when i stick a ps2 game in it gives me an error that ps2 software is not supported on this model playstation. Verry odd ........... why it they make it compatible with games from 2 generations ago, and not last gen? why would they give you the capability to make ps2 memcard images if you dont have the capability to use them?
so how long do you think it will take (based on time between mods for previous firmware releases)

No ETA. It could make even up to 6 months or more. Someone's working on the CFW to load homebrew but he's only able to get the PS3 to install homebrew, someone else is going to have to contribute what's needed to get homebrew to actually load then there will be backup loader support until someone adds lv2 access.
