while action replay is the preferred method you can do it without it. However, this method will require that you find a copy of the game 007 Agent Under Fire (it must not be the greatest hits version, because that one is patched) I found one at my local gamestop for $4. Nice. Much easier/cheaper than softmodding the Gamecube.
Modchips are far better with a PS2. Since they are more than just a "drive patch", they allow absolutely seamless usage. The better chips actually let you use the net adapter + any HDD to play every game as an iso. You can even plug it into your router and x-fer games from your PC to your PS2. It's probably got far above that since the last 2-3 yrs I've stopped watching their news pages.
just stumbled on this today. didnt even knoe it could be done. how ever a bit of reading and with the old swap magic to boot, its all done easy. the only thing is none of the tutorials i read mentioned that you games need to be patched first. learnt the hard way and so far so good.
just used the swap magic to boot the usb stick so i could install McBOOT and then just play patched games. good job.
I've done it with a USB Loader disk, I used a PC to install the games to a hard drive and plugged the hard drive in, stuck the loader disk into the drive and it loaded the games from the Hard Drive. my copy is a little outdated now so it doesn't work for some modern games. but it works great for the GTA games (not San Andreas). No goofed graphics and it sped things up with loading times. always a plus.
FYI I can't remember exactly but I think it is USBEXTREME or something like that. It works for PS2 Fat and PS2 slim, quite helpful for when the PS2 slim starts giving you trouble with loading games from actual disks.
Hmm,... I've been looking into this for a good while now (weeks) and I am not quite sure what all is needed. it all seems a bit overwhelming. And I can't figure out what guides are the most recent.
What I have:
External 160gb hdd,
ps2 fat,
8mb memory card,
and tons of games, but not the 007 one. and no AR code disks.
Oh, and the usual pc things.. such as a laptop, usb mouse, wireless internet... um... all kinds of usb and other stray cords.
Would there be any way I could just use some sort of these in softmodding? or will i absoulutely have to go buy other things?
I softmoded our wii, but that seemed a lot easier than the reading and searching I have done for the ps2... 0_o
