I was a Gamecube guy when the PS2 was out. That wasn't due to any inherent Nintendo fanboyism but because it simply had most of the games I wanted to play at the time. I decided to buy a PS2 the other day and check out on some of the titles I missed. After modding my Wii with the guides you provided here, I expected the PS2 to be a similar process. The process itself isn't bad necessarily, but there are so many different approaches with no centralized location containing all the info that it was frustrating. I also had no idea that SCPH-9000xs were sort of a unique beast in some ways. I wanted to write this post so that perhaps anyone else who does a web search for SCPH-90006 can avoid a lot of confusion.

First I live in Egypt. Here, if you buy your console from a corner shop (which most people do) it comes premodded. That's because those same shops only sell bootlegs, because bootlegs are all the average Egyptian can (barely) afford anyway. After having so many options on my Wii though there was no way I was going to rely solely on optical media. I haven't opened up the unit up yet to see how it was modded, and I don't know if it applies to the 90006, but if you need to mod this seems like it might work:

Once you've jumped over that hurtle you're going to need a loader. Most info you'll find out there pertains to Free McBoot, which emphatically will not work on a 90006 or most newer models; you can boot the CD and copy the exploit files to your memory card, but you will get nothing but the standard boot menu afterward. Unfortunately you'll need to boot your loader from the optical drive, which will in turn allow you to load games from a Samba network share; coincidentally, network loading is faster than using USB since the PS2 only support USB 1.1. OpenPS2Loader is the weapon of choice when it comes to loading games from USB or Samba; the problem is, most guides out there will reference Free McBoot in loading it (which you can use anyway) rather than explain how to make an ISO that simply boots directly into it. To save you that trouble, here is an ISO image that boots directly into OpenPS2Loader:

Once burnt and booted you need to configure your network settings. If OpenPS2Loader has successfully connected to the specified share two folders will be created on the remote machine named CFG and VMC. You'll need to add two more called CD and DVD manually, which will hold CD and DVD ISOs respectively. Now, your ISOs must be named according to the retail code; you'll can find that by opening the ISO on your machine. For example, the code for Tekken Tag Team Tournament is SLUS_200.01. OPL is a little finicky about filenaming conventions; at first I renamed the file to SLUS_200.01.iso but nothing showed up in the browser. After naming it SLUS_200.01.TekTag.iso it worked though; TekTag can be any descriptor your want it to be, though I think the total filename cannot exceed 23 characters.
