I think I found another work around that so far is working for me everytime. I know you said you aren't using this 2tb hard drive anymore for your Wii but hopefully someone else who is searching for this same issue will find this useful. So basically all I did was move my apps folder from the root of my SD card to the root of my USB hard drive. I have a USB Loader GX forwarder installed so I have USB Loader GX show up as a channel in the System Menu. So now when I click on USB Loader GX, it is trying to load it from the USB hard drive instead of the SD card. The hard drive light starts blinking as it tries to load up USB Loader GX but after a few seconds it fails to load and it kicks me back to the System Menu. But when I click on USB Loader GX a second time, it loads right up and is working fine. So pretty much I have to click on USB Loader GX twice in order for it to actually load but at least I can do that while sitting on my couch. It is much better then what I was doing before with unplugging the power from the hard drive, click on USB Loader GX, plug the power back into the hard drive and then have it load up. Hopefully this info is helpful to someone.
that suggests that theres an issue when the drive initializes. its not being recognized by the wii on its initial startup.
ill look more into this, see if i can work up a solution.
Thanks for trying to find a solution. The only other thing I can think of doing (and I don't know if this is even possible or will even work) is to somehow make it so the Wii's USB ports are disabled on startup so the USB hard drive doesn't start up with the Wii. But then become re-enabled when I load up USB Loader GX and it is searching for a USB device so the drive turns on then. My thinking is that this would be similar to me unplugging the power from the USB hard drive and then plugging it back in when I load up USB Loader GX which worked for me and is what I was doing prior to my latest workaround. But don't stress yourself out too much trying to find a solution. I can live with selecting USB Loader GX twice before it starts.
i have the same is with the same wdbacw0020hbk-nesn. is it really rma or just the wii doesnt like this drive
I have encountered a few cases where usb 3.0 drives have worked with the d2xv9 b49 cIOS. If you want to give that a try, download them from HERE and extract directly to the wad folder on your sd card, then install using MMM or WiiMod.
That particular unit, while initially listed as "working" on the USB Compatibility list, has a slew of follow-ups in the same thread that pretty much say what this thread is saying (working but with issues). Just as a reminder: generally-speaking, when there are issues 99.9% of the time it involves the actual controller circuitry and nothing to do with the hard drive itself. A lot of people don't seem to realize this. A controller or drive interface is part of the equation, and the hard drive is the other. I think it more marketing/average joe perception not to think in this way...
i experimented with it, as in i put in a 1tb drive into it and guess what? it loaded just fine. stuck a 750gig into it, a 60gig SSD, a 2tb seagate. all worked with the enclosure.
i tried using the drive on a different enclosure, same problem. enclosure used has never given me issues with any drive BUT this one.
not sure, but im leaning towards its a wonky hard drive :\
A possibility. Might want to check any jumpers on the drive itself for proper configuration --- wouldn't hurt.
drive was a standard 7200 rpm drive w/ no jumpers present. none on the hard drive or hardware.
