So, after intalling hackmii, and running it and bootmii, etc, the next step in installing the modpack, do you reformat that original sd card, and put the files on there, or do you just add them to the original installation files? Also, which SD card or files stays in the wii, once all the modding is done?
One last thing, there is the part that says to downgrade to system menu v4.1, is that the same number as the wii version I have 4.3u, meaning I should downgrade my system menu? Or can I just leave that part and skip that step? Some terms are confusing me a little.
I am no expert, but I think I can help since just finished softmodding.
I don't think it matters if you reformat the card or not. I left the card as it was and added the new files to it, so go ahead and do that.
Chapter 3 says you leave an SD card in the Wii that contains the apps you wanna use, but I don't think it's very important.
I didn't downgrade, since it said that part is optional and I don't wanna risk Skyward Sword not working since it said I needed the newest version to run the game. No, 4.1 is not the same as 4.3 and yes, you can leave that part skip that step. The u at the end means it's a USA Wii.
I followed your guide down to the nail and everything installed perfectly, no errors whatsoever. I followed every thing you had to say as well as taking in all the recommendations you mentioned.
Now this is where I am stumped. I went to load a backup of my Wii game following your recommended guide here:http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...ide-fat32.html
Everything goes well on the PC, but when I go to the Wii and open up USB Loader GX and launch my Wii backup I get this error:
wii error 001 unauthorized device detected
What is the problem here and what can I do to fix this? Google hasn't helped because it it is referring to a whole heap of Softmod's and I can't find one for yours.
UPDATE (SOLVED?): I used Wiithon to format the flash drive in WBFS and it seems to be working just fine now. The game installation from disc to loader is chugging along at about 3000KB/s. So Fat32 got hung up on each device, but WBFS works fine. Could it be my Wii hardware (it's a first generation machine).
I've completed the installation instructions without issue and now I come to the final step: trying to install games from my discs. I've tried Modern Warfare 3 and Goldeneye 007, and each game's installation hangs at less than 1.0%. I thought it was a bad hard drive since I'd had trouble with the device in the past, but I bought a 32GB Sandisk flash drive and the very same issue, with each game hanging at about the same point, occurs on this drive as well.
The remote and cursor are still responsive, but clicking cancel has no effect andI have to hold the power button for several seconds to restart. When I check the drive on my computer, it just has empty *.tmp files for the games I've tried to install.
I have 4.3U so I skipped the installation of ios58 and 61 (ch.1, pt. 1) and the 25 ios wads (ch. 2, pt. 1). I also didn't downgrade to 4.1 since that was optional. Other than that I did everything by the letter.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for this wonderful guide. I had originally followed another outdated guide from another site but then found this guide and followed it step by step from beginning to end with no issues and everything is running fine. Very easy to understand and follow. I just have 3 questions before I do anything else.
1. In Chapter 2 it says,
I was already on 4.3U but decided to do this anyway. Then I downgraded to 4.1U as per Chapter 2, Part 1. Since now I am technically back on System Menu 4.1 do I need to redo the IOS Update for 4.3 or did the downgrade to 4.1U not touch those updated IOSes?Quote:
If you would like to update your Wii IOS:
Download IOS Update.zip (If you are on a System Menu version other than 4.3, you need this!)
Extract the IOS Update directly to your sd card
Overwrite files if asked
2. I installed Priiloader as per Chapter 2, Part 2 and enabled the recommended hacks and everything seems to work fine. At the end of Part 2 is says,
So I checked out that thread and I read in the Priiloader installation section there that is said,Quote:
For a detailed guide on how to use Priiloader, look HERE.
I don't have a priiloader folder in my apps folder or a hacks_hash.ini file. Like I said, Priiloader seems to working fine for me but I was wondering if it was necessary for me to do that step from the Priiloader thread.Quote:
- Downoad the hacks for priiloader from here hacks_hash.zip
- Extract the file and put the hacks_hash.ini file in the "priiloader" folder.
SD card structure:
Your priiloader files should look like this.
3. The guide doesn't mention anything about downloading and installing Dios Mios to play GameCube games from a USB Loader. Does following this guide already do this or do I have to install it myself following the Dios Mios v2.0 and v2.2 guide here? And if I do have to follow that guide, which one should I install. I hear different things about Dios Mios Lite, Dios Mios 2.0 and Dios Mios 2.2.
Thanks again for everyone's time and effort and willingness to help others making this site my goto site for anything Wii related. If there is anything I can do to give back to the community, please let me know and I will give it my best shot.
Just checked my brothers and he is still running 4.3 modded. Is the only advantage to downgrading brick protection? And will newer games need 4.3 to run?
Last question for now as I still am not clear. When I hooked the wii up it wanted to update even though it's on 4.3. Is it okay to update before modding even though it says to not update from Nintendo. If I do it first will the hack still work? I just want any non game related updates etc before modding.
4.3 Does not offer any benefits at all.
It actually took away the ability of using the bannerbomb and installing the HBC.
No, installing system menu 4.1 will not give you the option of installing bootmii as boot2.
Installing bootmii as boot2 or Ios depends on the system, not the system menu.
No, don't update...your going to mod your wii and will be installing all original ios's and cios's needed etc.
Yes, if you do , it will still be hackable.
