I think he misquoted (yes, the same user). The original post this poster self-quoted spoke of "whether legit or burned," and likely the source of inference made. This was the same observation cjizzle made in his fail pic with the meter (the Skyward Swords inference by this poster).
Sorry for the noob question and if i didn't read around but i don't really have time and dunno where to start really.
Almost 1 year ago I followed this tutorial and i full softmodded my wii.
Now i'm out of the scene since 1 year and i'm too noob to know what to do.
Just wanted to know if i have to do something to keep my wii up to date for newest games.
Do i just need to install latest Waninkoko cios? (if he's still the one who makes mods etc).
I need to play FIFA 12 and Just Dance 3, just wanted to know if there is something i must do to update my SOFTMOD.
Sorry for the noob question and thanks everyone who will answer me.
Destroyed that disc. It was just to test it anyways. I don't play that series, I just wanted to find out if ANY new games worked on my wii.
Just working on my regular discs and a few backups right now. I'm running through the entire softmod guide again. I'll post if it works. If not, I could use any ideas anyone has.
OK just finished rehacking everything according to the guide. I managed to get one backup disc to boot (conduit), but my normal discs and other backups aren't working.
It's not my laser. USB loader is copying these discs just fine.
I'm guessing there's a setting I should be updating, or something. Hopefully someone more experienced than I with this stuff can help me out.
Thats for the great guide! Worked perfectly.
I apologize in advance for my lengthy post - just want to make sure that I avoid a brick. My concerns pertain to DarkCorp and your current guide.
I have read most all (if not all) of your posts/threads, but I haven't found the answer to this. Since 2009, I've read countless forums and kept up with 'the scene' - also, I'm a software engineer - so this stuff makes sense to me - for the most part.
May 2009, I followed a guide to originally softmod 4.0 - it used cIOSv7 - everything went great.
April 2010, I followed Dogeggs 3.1-4.1 guide - everything went great.
December 2010, I followed your guide to softmod ANY wii - everything went great. In this December 2010 guide, you provided the optional DarkCorp v1.1 Full install in Chapter 2 Step 4 - and I installed it - everything went great. And, now I want to update my Wii again to keep it current and able to play the latest games.
My question/concern is this:
Before I run through this latest guide (that no longer includes DarkCorp - and, to further emphasize my concerns - you make mention of not installing cIOScorp in the Brick Prevention thread) - To note, I realize that DarkCorp is basically cIOScorp v4.x and that cIOScorp is commonly used to refer to earlier versions of DarkCorp ... nonetheless ...
Is it safe to install the IOS-Update wads (in your current ANY wii guide's Chapter 2) over the DarkCorp v1.1 Full install? DarkCorp documentation mentions that the IOSs that it modified have to be replaced by 'official, unmodified' IOSs in order to avoid brick situations (in its uninstall section) ... so, therein lies my concern.
To note, I have no intentions of deleting nor uninstalling any wads - aside from the mothballed channels. I'd like to keep the DarkCorp functionality and update, if possible. But I would rather update and lose the DarkCorp functionality, if that's the case.
To further explain myself - each zip contains several IOS wads that are installed - for example:
1) Will running the IOS-Update in your current guide overwrite the DarkCorp's IOSs? - thus removing any DarkCorp functionality associated with that IOS - or will they simply sit next to eachother so that my Wii's SOC has both versions of the IOS? - referring here to your statement in 'Wii CIOS Explained' thread, Question 4 - "Installing cIOS is safe because it never modifies your original IOS, it just adds another one." As I understand it, DarkCorp modified/patched its IOS wads - not sure if that falls into the cIOS category or not.
2) If it is overwritten, is your IOS wad an 'official, unmodified' IOS wad? If so, that would therefore remove any brick concerns that I have due to having DarkCorp installed on my Wii.
3) It is assumed that if the IOS is overwritten, then I would lose the functionality that DarkCorp provided, is that correct?
Thank you for all the effort that you have put into this community; it is immensely appreciated.
