wish I had a solution for you. I have done many of mods but when it comes to diagnosing issues I'm quite a novice. If u have the drive to fat32 and worse case scenario u have to keep sd card in, I don't think that's the end of the world. Hopefully someone else has input to the problem. Wish I could help but my technical experience is limited.
I have the same problem.
My 3TB WD hard drive is working fine as long as i use a SD card where the bool.dol for USB Loader GX is on.
I'm using a forwarder channel for USB Loader GX.
I also have a 2TB HD which is working fine without a SD card. Both the wbfs files and the boot.dol are on the HD, so I don't have to use a SD card.
But when I use my 3TB hard drive this isn't working. I get a dump error screen.
Does anyone have a solution for this? So I can work without using a SD card?
@pipeanwire: Do you have both the games and the boot.dol on the 3TB drive? And is this working?
I have fount fat32format.exe (it's a dos program, not to be confused with fat32formater!) to work perfectly ! Just use the default settings (eg fat32format e:). Also upgrading to D2Xv7-final helps as well, I use Configurable USB Loader (slot 248) without any issues, as well as Mighty Channels on default slot 249
Install D2Xv7-final slot 247, Base 57, revision 21007
Install D2Xv7-final slot 248, Base 56, revision 21007
Install D2Xv7-final slot 249, Base 56, revision 21007
WiiMC has issues, but that is another story
But is the USB Loader on your SD card? Or on your hard disk?
my USB Configurable Loader is on the SD card.
I think your issue is Homebrew channel uses IOS58 and I don't think IOS58 supports large drives. That is kind of what D2X (ver 7-final imo) is for. Chicken and egg issue, you need HBC to load the usb loader which supports large drives, but you can't even load HBC as HBC using IOS58 can't see the apps folder on the super large drives. HBC is in the Nand.
Question, what's the issue with not wanting to leave the SD card in ? Kids...? I find upgrading programs by using the SD card is SOOO much easier then lugging around the external usb drive. Computer and Wii are in different places typically.
ditto ! ;)

The USB Loader is on the 1TB partition.
And now the HomeBrew channel recognizes the 1TB FAT32 partition, and i can start the USB Loader, and it work!
So far so good!
But the USB Loader forwarder channel in the Wii Menu still gives me a dump error!
