One question though. I have a black wii with 4.1E running on it.
I'm thinking about updating to 4.3 and then softmodding my wii using letterbomb and the softmod any wii guide.
But I've read in several places that I should not to update my wii to 4.3.
So now that this letterbomb hack is out, what is the best way to go?
Leave it as is and use bannerbomb, or update to 4.3 and then use letterbomb?
What could be a reason not to update my wii to 4.3 now before starting to softmod?
Does bannerbomb have any benefits over letterbomb?
stay at 4.1 and do bannerbomb, you gain nothing by going to 4.3... if you do some reading on the forum you would of known this...
I have done some reading. I wasn't asking whether I gain a lot by updating.
Currently my shopping channel is not working, because it needs an update. If I upgrade to 4.3 I assume it will work again without a hassle.
Not that I care so much about the shopping channel, but hey, if I can fix it easily with an update and then start softmodding without any extra limitations compared to when I don't update, why not update?
I want to know is whether there is a more important reason not to update to 4.3.
Does it have more limitations compared to 4.1?
What are the benefits of bannerbomb over letterbomb?
if the upgrade fixes the shopping channel, that is great. when you do the mauifrog guide it will downgrade the SM back to 4.1
i see no reason to NOT upgrade first if that is what will fix the shopping channel
There is no legitimate reason to update to 4.3. The only reason I did it is to test this hack.
4.2 and 4.3 system menu revisions exist to break homebrew. 4.1 is easily hacked (bannerbomb), and anything in 4.3 that can be deemed useful (ios58, new shop channel) can be downloaded separately and installed. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by moving to 4.3. Stay at 4.1, if you want the shopping channel you can install it with MMM or I'm guessing there might be a guide on how to do that somewhere.....
If you haven't already, I spent a considerable amount of time documenting lots of stuff, click the Introduction to Wii Hacking in my sig to read. Explains a lot of this stuff.
Added- There are no "benefits" to letterbomb or bannerbomb. They're both fairly easy. The whole point to any exploit is to achieve a goal - launch a piece of unsigned software.
Worked on my New 4.3U wii with no issues at all. It even installs HBC! Thanks for the intel!
This thread has opened the floodgates for a lot of newb fail, lol. Jeez... excellent hack, but I'm not sure the value of it to remain an open topic at this rate.
Point taken nighty, thread closed.
