Cut off timer
Im having a problem with wii gameplay and my kids. Its like the end of the world when it time to turn it off and let the us watch the news and so on.
It would cause a whole lot less fighting in the home if there was software that cut the power to the wii after 6pm or after 1 hours play. Plus a whole lot healthy for the kids go go out and play ...
Has anyone heard of such a thing.. Im not sure buying a timer for the power lead would be a good idea as it could chop the power in the middle of a save. Or does it matter.
Thanks for an interesting question. I agree that suddenly cutting off power to the Wii might have catastrophic results. I am reminded, however, that the Wii almost came with a parental control timer such as you are requesting.
During a Nintendo presentation, by Takashi Aoyama, at the Game Developers Conference in 2008, it was revealed that Satoru Iwata (President of Nintendo) asked for a parental control timer so that the Wii not "be seen as an enemy in the household.". After some debate, described as "raging debate", the Wii development team came up with what they thought was a better approach, the play history. Aoyama explained, “”instead of instituting some play limit…this allowed parents to monitor and discuss how much their children were playing…this is why you can’t erase the play history on the console.”
Nintendo apparently hoped that using the play list history would allow for monitoring of children's Wii play and provide the means for parent-child discussion. Microsoft, went with the more draconian, less child-trusting approach for their game console Anyway, that's the philosophy behind Nintendo's non-eraseable play history and parental control choice.
I know it isn't a perfect solution but what about using the sleep timer on the T.V. Just walk into the room at 5 and set it for an hour. Tell them when it goes off they are done. Then you can turn the T.V. back on and shut the Wii off yourself.
I do agree with Joostin, something that cuts the power would be a very bad idea.
I tell my kids that if they throw a fit when its time to turn it off then they cant play it for a week. if I get attitude or lip after that they dont get to play the next day and if it keeps up then onto a week of no wii for them..( and time to play Black ops for me..lol )
after the first time they got wii play revoked they started to listen a lot better.
Like my girl says "you'll never grow up" lol
