Dvd read error 1167
Hay people, Just a quick question using neogammer to play burnt iso's it keeps coming up with (above) DVD READ ERROR 1167. From what i have read it is either a dirty laser or corrupt media which i dont think is the case. Now the wii is the new red mairo ed and i have been informed that new wii's are unable to play backups due to the new disc drive.
Can i please have some help clearing this matter up??????:032::032::032:
The fact that you said its a red wii solves your problem straight away, but also creates another one
The red and black wii's physically cannot and will not read DVD-R's. Its a hardware limitation of the drive so cann't be bypassed
Your two options are to either replace the drive with a new older model drive which will read DVD-R's and currently is a drop in replacement, but does mean taking your wii apart
Or, install a USB loader like Wii Flow or Configurable USB Loader and running your games via an external USB device or SD card
From reading your message it appears you have already managed to softmod your wii, so its now a case of install the USB loader. You will get lightning quick load times, but not 100% of games work, the vast majority will do but some simply won't
The easiest way to install the USB loader is take a look at MODMii. Its 100% free and the best part is once the files are downloaded via your PC, copy the files to an SD card (preferably 1GB NOT SDHC) and the installation is 100% offline. Your wii does not need connecting to the 'net in any way. It will also add anti-brick protection and update any IOS to the best in use (well for the softmod anyway)
ModMii for Windows - GBAtemp.net
It basically takes you through the softmod step-by-step and even gives you a very good quide to follow. As your on 4.3 firmware (I assume) simply follow the method for 4.3 softmodding. The fact that you have already done yours doesn't make any difference, so you can skip the steps about needing certains games to install the softmod
Thanks for the info. Should have said that i already have wiiflow and have got quite a selection of games on a hdd. Just curious about the dvd drive ;) ;)
But thanks for the detailed message (really appreciate it)
I wish I had seen this post before I modded my wii. I have been through every tutorial from 4.1 to 4.3., and have taken great info from all of those posts. I did not realize that is was simply a hardware limitation of this wii that prevented me from playing backups. I guess I will have to invest in an external drive, or trade my wii in for an older version.:(
Just get a usb hdd, you'll be happier. Games don't lag, no burning discs, no scratched discs, no stack of DVD's next to your Wii, .......... and so on. I filled up my 500GB usb hdd with over 230 games, at about $15 per 50 DVD -R, that would be over $60 @230 games.
before you get your external drive, play it with a pendrive (flash drive, usb memory stick, whatever....), save your dvd-r immediately !
That's how I started, with a usb thumb drive. Then moved up to a usb hdd when all was working good.
