I have installed the MPlayerCE version v0.80 r636 BUT i have a couple of issues.
1. Most impotantly for me is that I can not us the smb share function all the time to stream avi files from an ext HDD on my PC, I have setup my ip addresses but it will not work 100% of the time. I have had it working but it is frustrating that sometimes it will not work. Any ideas or pointers???
2. I cannot play DVD's, I get the message that the dvd is mounting but nothing happens after that. I am pretty sure I have the correct IOS installed but again would like some ideas on where I am going wrong.

Why use Mplayer ce when we have Wiimc? Try Wiimc stomp_442 has a thread that explains all about it
MPlayer CE has it's limitations, but at least it doesn't fail at DVD playback. WiiMC about 5 seconds between each scene. That isn't always a big deal, but it can cut out critical parts of a movie. I keep both MPlayer CE and WiiMC on my SD card.

Thanks for your quick replies.
I decided on MPlayerCE coz it looked simple to use, and for the most part it is. If I could get the 2 issues sorted I will be well happy.
Richardsito - I will still try out the Wiimc to in the view of running both.
JoostinOnline - My Wii is about 3 years old so I don't think the drive would be the issue but I am no expert.. I found a link from another thread to check by serial no. Wii Drive Chip Database This tells me that it was manufactured in 2006 and it has a 100% chance of been a GC2 -D2C (v1) chipset????
I think I may have stumbled upon why I was unable to use smb, when trying to view a file I was in the middle of downloading on the PC, when I stopped the download I was able to view my files from the PC. I know it may not make much difference but it works for me :-) it is the DVD issue which is a bit frustrating.
Loaded WiiMC - app works a treat, easier to set the smb settings as you can do this in the application rather than manually adjusting the smb config file, as you do with MPlayerCE. Retail DVD still does not work I get the message Disc Error.
What do I need to do now? I am sure I have DVDX install and all the required IOS's
How do you get Wiimc or Mplayer to read a usb thumb-drive?
