Overheated Wii with sentimental value
Back in 2007 My parents bought me a wii when I was diagnosed with cancer (Hodgkins lymphoma) During my treatment and recovery I used my wii almost every day and accumulated a plethora of game saves high scores and classic games bought from online store.
Time passed and I am now 3 years free of that nightmare. My poor Wii though is not doing too well. About a year or two ago I started to see strange artifacts with the graphics on my wii, being out of warranty I took it apart to examine it. Wii Heatsink Fix « WTFMoogle.com I had to replace the heat pads and add my own thermal paste to stop the overheating. Around this time I started looking at developing my own home brew games.
A month or two ago during the heat of summer the artifacting started to get worse and very simple homebrew aps were crashing with the fun kernel panic and memory dump display. I took this as a note that the wii might be on its last few boots and did a full nand dump.
less then a month ago my Wii got very very hot. It sounded like the fan stopped working. I quickly unplugged it and let it cool down. finding cat hair had plugged the fan.
The Wii now only powers very minimally on. Fan spins and the red led lights up. nothing else happens :( No sound or video.
I have a nice hot air reflow station and I am very good at soldering nand chips. I have this feeling that if i do send my wii to nintendo to be fixed they wont spend the time to recover my data as most likely the gpu or cpu is cooked.
Is there any thing I should try before I give up on my data?
Would it be possible to take my nand dump and flash it to a new wii?
Could a full re-balling of the chips fix my wii?
if the wii is a lost cause, Is there a way to have nintendo transfer my data?
Thank you in advance.
