My Wii's USB's got a disease...
I don't know who else to trust! Wiihacks has been THE resource for accurate helpful info since I first stumbled in when i was still a softmod freshman...
(I apologize for the length, but please give me a chance, I know you all love this stuff- hell, I remember people being disappointed when SMG2 came out with no special hurdles to clear!:p)
I am having issues with my heretofore amazingly functional sotmod...
I am softmodded as per doggeggs' 4.1 guide.
Bootmii as boot2.
NAND backed up.
WD passport 250 gb drive.
I have both USB loader gx and CFG USB loader installed w/ forwarders, but most often just use USBloaderGX, both to play my games off of USB, as well as for ripping games to my drive. The majority of my games have been installed this way, though I do have 10 or so games transferred to my WBFS partition via WBFSmanager3.0.
My issue, which I've posted some about before, is that some games that worked previously, no longer seem to behave. Previously, games would work fine, then it got to the point where they would freeze or lock up, consistently and at the same spots.
Black Screens mostly, but also all BLUE (metroid3, first time I played). Some at the start of a cutscene, sometimes after I attempted to pause (punch out).
If I deleted then reinstalled the game, it seemed to fix the issue (at least for the ones I tried: LEGOstarwars, punchout, HOTDoverkill) and a response to my previous post seemed to point towards the problem potentially being that I was turning the Wii off from within a loaded game, thereby causing bad "clusters" and errors in the games.
From then on, I have taken care to ALWAYS exit back to the USBloader menu (I priiload into USBlGX) before shutting down, but now other games are "dying".
Punch Out wont even show the spinning disc on load, it just code dumps (it gives an error in CFG though that seems to point to a bad disc sound or something, dont know it off hand) HOTDok Just boots to black. Some other random freezes.
Other than the powering off during a game, the only thing that is of note is that once, when I was transferring a game thru WBFSmanager, my usbHD "dropped" three or so inches (desktop to keyboard drawer). To be safe, I uninstalled the game being transferred, and reinstalled that game (FWIW I have not had any issues with playback for this game). This is the only time the drive has ever been "abused".
So, could powering down from in a game dick me up like this?
Is it possible that a 3" drop while writing could fubar the whole drive?
Is it my loader? (Responses to similar threads indicate a possible issue with USBloaderGX in general, and recommend against it.)
I am in the process of backing up my AT partition, as well as backing up a couple IOS from the drive, so that I may reformat the whole thing and start from scratch(ish).
What are best practices at this point? Am I better off with only using CFGusb or WiiFlow? Which? Pay special attention to power downs? Pat my head and rub my belly? Pray to Miyamoto?:035:
I have gone from total awe and amazement at my "video game jukebox" to utter frustration when I try to play or even show someone how my once magnificent setup works.
Help me regain my faith!
Sorry again for the length, please share any wisdom you have.
