I have a Wii which I bought while living in China. It was running 3.2 and had obviously been hacked to be in English. I think the unit would have been originally Japanese. Homebrew was already installed on it, and I recently installed Priiloader. The same day I installed priiloader, which was working fine, I installed the 4.2 upgrade from Waninkoko. The installed went fine, but when the unit restarted at the end I got a screen that says "003 Unauthorized device has been detected".
I tried powering down and restarting while holding the reset button to get me back into priiloader, but it only goes to the 003 screen.
Does anyone out there know what I should try to do to fix this?
Do you have bootmii as boot2 on your console and a NAND backup?

4.2 had nothing interesting. You don't need it at all.
Your wii was not a Japanese one, but a korean one. You can try to use this guide to fix it: Guide: How to fix Korean 4.2 error: 003 unauthorized device has been detected.
If it doesn't work, turn of the wii completely and then turn it on again. If the disc drive light flashed twice, you can use this guide to fix things: Fully Brick, Bootmii/boot2 installed but No Nand Backup? Solution Here!.
If that does not work, you will need to wait until there are discs with the 4.3 update and use these to update to korean system menu 4.3.
This is the reason we tell people not to update.
Thanks for the info Bliepo.
I normally would not have updated, but some of the new games would not work on my system. I loaded in priiloader, and set it to bypass disk update checks, but they still weren't working. I stupidly thought that upgrading the system might be the problem.
I wonder how the company repairs systems with this error. I know their webpage lists a number to call if you have an 003. I wonder what they tell you if you call.
I might try a couple of the solutions you listed anyways, see if I can get it back.
Ok, here is the latest news, someone help me out so I don't screw this up even more please!
I picked up a gamecube controller, and popped it open so I could hit the four directional buttons at the same time. When restarting the system with this in place, I do NOT go to the 003 error page anymore, but instead I see " 4.2 (USA) " at the bottom of a black screen.
I downloaded the Universal Unbrick Disk I found here :
Universal Unbrick Disc v3 is Now Available for Nintendo Wii - PS3 NEWS - PlayStation 3 News - PS3 Forums
Placing that disk in the Wii opened up Wad Manager 1.3. YAY!
Now I have run into another problem. I was thought I had the right WAD to laod but I think I might not have. I loaded IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad and cios_fix.wad which I found online, hoping I could downgrade myself back to 3.2. They seemed to install fine, but now when I start the Wii, I can get back to the 4.2 USA screen, but when I insert the disk I get an error screen about a disk problem and to restart the Wii.
Right now I am burning the Last Chance Unbrick disk from the same page as the Universal unbrick. If this works, and I can get back to a WAD manager, I will stop everything until someone here can tell me the right WAD to load.
The new disk works! It brings up WAD manager 1.5. There is a list of IOS I can install, including IOS 249. If I pick an IOS from the list, then it asked about NAND Emulator, which I have as disabled. It then asks where to find the files. What should I do? Is there an IOS 249 file I can get somewhere to put on an SD card? I think that is the best IOS to use, because I seem to remember 249 being on my system.
Can anyone give me some direction from this point so I don't mess it up again?
Don't worry about 249 right now. You need to get to the point where your wii will boot. Just hang tight and someone like Mauifrog or Bad_Ad84 will give you some advice.
Fix is in this thread: http://www.wiihacks.com/bricked-wii-...-detected.html
You already can get into wad manager, so you just need to install the patched IOS70 (which will fix the 003 error).
The information and files you need have already been linked to in this thread, yet you are downloading disks and files from a mix of other sites... this is not advisable.
Alright, I am trying to install the patched IOS 70 listed in the link, but when the WAD manager starts to install it, I get "ERROR! (Ret = - 1029)" during the Installing Title portion.
Any ideas what this means?
I did try using a Mario cart iso, altered as mentioned in the thread, first but it was not working. I'm not sure if it was a different region or not. Did I need a Korean Mario cart because my hardware is Korean? That is why I decided to try the disk that I downloaded from the other site.
Boot into the wadmanager, select ios16 (or 250), then install cIOS70-v6174.zip
