Sonic Colors - Sonic News Network, the Sonic Wiki - Sonic heroes, villains, games, and more
This one looks okay. I've seen footage of the game & I must say the graphics &
amazing for a wii, it's kind of like the day stages from Sonic Unleashed, which were very popular among the fans. Will this be the turning point for Sonic games that all Sonic fans have been waiting for? Or is it just another one of those games we frown upon? What do you think?
Note: I find it a bit coincidental that this game was announced when Super Mario Galaxy 2 was announced. I also find it coincidental that the game takes part in space, with Sonic traveling to different planets to help a small alien race. Sound familiar, Nintendo?;)
I find it weird there are hardly any replies here...I'll say, I didn't start out with a SEGA genesis, my starting point was Sonic Advance 3 on the 2D side and Sonic Adventure on the 3D side, people are very hard on Sonic when it comes to his jump in 3D...I feel most game reviewers play these games with the thought: "If it's not like the 2D ones, blast it", it's sad...Mario in 3D is NOTHING like the 2D mario, yet people like it, so why should Sonic be harshy bashed on if it keeps its speed on most of its games anyway?....okay I think I got a little side-tracked, back to Sonic Colors, if there's only day stage-styled gameplay, then i'm 99% certain this will be a lot better than Unleashed, I generally don't moan about new gameplay attempts on the 3D games...but the werehog was by far the WORST, with that removed, Colors is sure to succeed, that is, if Sega still keeps the levels design and speed just as good, which seems like it from the trailers i've seen.
No, that does bring up a good point, why are 3-D Sonic games highly criticized? I think it was due to a lack of real speed, like Sonic Heroes & Sonic Adventures 1 & 2 (This speed element was improved in Unleashed). I think the graphics engine (The Elusive Hedgehog Engine), may have been tuned down a bit for this game to be fitted to wii since the graphics are similar to the XBOX360 & PS3 versions of Sonic Unleashed, however I'm not exactly sure about the exclusive to wii/DS concept. I'm half for it (I have a wii), & half against it (May weaken fan base).
This game in my opinion, combined with Sonic The Hedgehog 4, may in fact be the turning point SEGA has been looking, provided that people don't see the Mario Galaxy similarities...
Mario Galaxy? I've heard people compare Unleashed and Colors to Galaxy and quite honestly, just because a game takes place in space doesn't make it similar to another, that said, I've hardly been disappointed by Sonic games, they're all so varied, different and fun. I will hope for this one not to be the exception, the only problem I have is whether the game will end up being short or not, this is why they forced the werehog on us last time, cause the day stages alone would shorten the game...but if you ask me I'd prefer it short and fun than long and torturing.
i actually prefer the newer sonic 3d games to the new mario 3d games.... also that sonic drift ? (i think) the racing game is fun.
the mario galaxy games are awful IMO, prob the minority there but they really suck. bad.
now super mario 64.... 1 of the best games of all time.... and thats real 3d... this galaxy bouncing around from little tiny specks of a level to another level is just lame to me.
I also know many people who hate Mario Galaxy (both) and would rather play a Sonic game on 3D, I liked the second Galaxy quite a bit, but the problem with Mario is it's used the same formula over and over, it's really just Mario 64 in space and with some really annoying planet exploring, it can get you extra dizzy at times, I actually liked Sunshine more...because it added some new gameplay elements, but even so Mario in 3D was never a big deal to me, nothing will ever surpass Mario World, end of story. Sonic's always changing its gameplay style, and that's what keeps the series from growing boring IMO, maybe they've failed in a few things from time to time, like the werehog stages, and shooting and treasure hunting ones from Sonic Adventure 2 which felt like a chore, but for the most part the speed is always there, some of you are probably gonna want to kill me, but I actually think Nintendo paid IGN and some other reviewers for Galaxy 2's perfect score, to me it was just decent, if you played the first one, you've experienced everything...but what I'm getting at...it was kind of a lazy job.
im of the same opinon galaxy 2 was the same thing, pay $50 for some new boards and yoshi... but no online co op
Haha, who cares about a perfect score on IGN. A game is a game. I love both mario and sonic games so I can't say one or the other is better. You cannot compare them IMO...just like you can't really compare 2D and 3D mario games. Mario is more fun in the long run I find.
And I find Sonic more fun on the long run, but I like both series, guess this started when the person who opened the thread said something about Colors having similarities to Mario Galaxy...maybe he'd be kind as to elaborate sometime, because I see none..
Personally, I don't care if Sonic Colors is like Mario Galaxy, I love both series a lot, however due to the evident similarities in the last few released/going to be released games by SEGA & Nintendo, this game might just add to make it unpopular with the fans.

Do you see where I'm going? I know it's a bit off topic but i just wanted to mention it as possible downfall for Sonic Colors(Although I don't notice it that much). On a new note, though, I think another possible downfall are these "wisps". In my opinion they look poorly designed & gameplay trailers show them to look fun but hard to control, what are your thoughts?
