HDD instead of SD card
I have sucessfully followed the tutorials to softmod my Wii to 4.1U, installed the Homebrew channel and backed up my games (Wii play ftw) to a HDD using USB loader GX. Now what I want to do is NOT use the SD card watsoever and make my HDD be the primary storage space.
- Is it possible to load the homebrew channel apps using HDD?
- Can I store and load my snes/nes/gameboy roms to the HDD?
Thanks Narse1979, I think im running into some more questions. I'll post once im ready
Reading = Learning lol
5b. Choose NOT TO FORMAT when you create your new partition [note that you can choose size of partition-you can leave some to create additional partitions later. It is recommended that you create a small FAT32 partition so that the option of running homebrew apps without an SD card is possible. Further, an NTFS formatted partition will allow for files > 4GB. (to estimate partition needs, each game will take an average 2-3GB; WBFS Manager has a 500 file limit so no more than 500 games despite available space).
5c. Make your new partition PRIMARY and ACTIVE
okay easier said then done; I now have some new questions :D
I now have 2 partitions on my drive, Drive Z has all the Wii games stored and Drive Y is the new FAT32 with all the files copied from my SD card. I tried running homebrew channel and the apps are not showing up. Things i've done: I've took out the SD card (so that Wii will only read the HDD), changed the homebrew settings (so that it'll read usb), plugged the HDD into both usb slots, checked to c if the drive is healthy/primary/active, insert and eject SD card while looking at the Homebrew channel.
Homebrew won't see anything on the HDD even though I can hear the HDD running once I change the settings on homebrew channel from Internal SD to USB.
- What should i do?. Should I partition another space? I have lots of unallocated HDD space ready to be used.
- Once this issue is resolved. Do I have to keep switching drives when i want to play either SNES roms and Wii backups? (I'd rather not)
-Is it possible to transfer all the files from SD card to the Wii itself to help resolve this issue? (i'd rather not buy another sd card to save my life)
mark the fat32 at active and see if that helps
Yah i made FAT32 active but it is still not showing up. I made sure the folder is named apps. Here is a pic of the drive:
