D2Pro9 Vs Wiikey
Has the D2Pro9 have any advantage over the Wiikey, or over any of the other chips for that matter. The D2Pro9 seems to be the more popular choice, yet it is twice the price of the wiikey and has no apparent advantages. I am about to buy a mod chip and I don't want to buy the Wiikey, install it, then realise I made a mistake.
Is it because it doesn't need to be connected to the cut pins?

WiiKey will only work on the older Wiis (DMS/D2A/D2B) so if you have any of those then WiiKey is still a solid performer or you can also use the D2Pro9 as well. If you have any of the later Wiis (D2C,D2C2,D2E), then WiiKey is not an option, you have to use newer modchip like the D2Pro9v2/v3 or the Wasabi2/3, these are two of the popular ones.
I've just had a look at the D2Pro9 and Wasabi. I'm put off the D2Pro9 because of the eject issue some people have had and the external programmer you may need for updates. I like the sound of the wasabi. 100% compatability with all wii versions, upgradeable via DVD and no need to connect to ic's cut legs on the d2b, which I have. I basically want a chip thats easy to solder and update. Is the wasabi my best choice?
If you have a d2b the d2pro9 works the same way as the wasabi2 does no problems with it. You can go with either wiikey, d2pro9 , wasabi2, or wiizard.
They all update via dvd but only update the SPI flash via dvd. The d2pro9 does spi through dvd or actel through programmer that is the key difference and confusion people have.
Either choice d2pro9 wasabi or wiizard you'd be good as they all have a similar install and the cut pins are not a problem.
If you like the sound of wasabi then go with it its a great chip ! We use them in our d2e wiis lately and it works very well.
I've ordered 3 of the new wasabi chips (neighbours want theirs doing). I also went for a temperature controlled soldering iron, i guess the lowest temperature you can work with the better, is that correct?
Sure, you have to select the right temperature to solder. If the temperature is too high may burn out your valuable Wii chip.
