@finney - you asked for ideas. The suggestions were valid even if they contradicted your view of store practices. If, indeed, there is a modchip in your Wii, that you, in good faith had thought was brand-new, there are 2 possibilities. One, any large store allows for a change of heart return, so the previous purchaser could have installed a modchip, had problems and rather than go through Nintendo or the modchip vendor, just quietly returned it as new.
The second is that while your Wii was in Braggamerights for a fan repair, one of the techs mistook that Wii for another and installed the chip.
