d2ckey and firmware 3.3
hi, i have a d2c key modchip installed on my wii (that is what the guy at the shop told me), i have a few things that are bothering me and need some advice:
1. can i update my wii to firmware 3.3, and still play backup games? i read the forums some say they work and others say nothing works, so i'm confused.
2. what is the latest firmware that d2c key works on 3.2 or 3.1?
3. can i use WUM to update my wii instead of buying games that have the update?
thx in advance
d2ckey works on all firmwares and it also works on 3.3 firmware. If u already installed the modchip and are not at 3.3 firmware yet, i would install the homebrew channel through the disk and u won't be able to play custom games like the custom guitar hero games if u update to 3.3 firmware.
i already have installed homebrew channel, i'm gonna try it to update the firmware when i have the chance through the internet, then post my findings
thx for the info samsher164
everything is working fine, finally i can play the new wiiware
yeah but now u can't play custom games.
i don't really mind, but what do u mean by custom games??
as long as i can play virtual console and wii games i'm happy
custom games as in like custom guitar hero games, ones with fake songs, and guitar hero rockband edition, guitar hero 2, and guitar hero. And there are some other custom games out there that were edited to the persons liking. The 3.3 firmware stops this but since u have the homebrew channel installed then i would reccomend the wii ios downgrader by wankiko to downgrader ur wii firmware from 3.3 to 3.2. If u don't want to do that then just get the freeloader or gecko.
If u don't care about playing custom games then its cool!:D
hi there, i am trying to play a few games that require me to initialize and update, i was told not to hit update ever today when i picked up the wii. i have a d2ckey chip. any suggestions so i can play my games. were do i find the update and how do i install it and not fry my wii.
dude... first of all, noone uses a d2ckey chip anymore. plus, they don't work well with new games. also, look around wiihacks before you ask questions. just looked for ways to upgrade your firmware or look up "custom firmware".

I'm wondering if I can upgrade to 4.0 firmware (to play the latest games)
- without bricking the Wii altogether
- and still allow me to play my old backup games?
