i missed the fact that you were installing on a d2b board.
The inching is only common on the new D2C2 board with a d2pro chip.
For the 5 wire setup you you solder the G,H,J, 3V3 and GND points.
You sure you wire the right ones?
Because it only does it with the chip connected its not a short on the board so your wire installs are probably oke.
Maybe a wire is shorting on the D2pro chip or isn't connecting properly.
Make sure you use thick wires for the 3v3 and GND.
It would help if you post a picture.
here is my install pictures. this is the wire they sold me with the chip. so did not think of anything. What is the best chip for the D2B chip set. I had a wii key but it was a clone and when I tried to update it with utility disk it just went to hell and then only played a few back ups but sill did all the orginals. so I decided to try this one. Not working out to good.
went back over all my connections and the same thing every time. Got out my supper magnifiying glass and light and no bridges and I using good soldier and wires? take out the chip and wires and the wii works fine. It has to be a bad chip, but I was able to get it to update with the programmer?
I just tried heavier wire for the ground and 3.3v and no good there. If I take off those 2 wires and then power up the unit. the light on the chip comes on vry faint? is that normal or a tell tail sign of a problem. when power and ground are off the board the wii comes on just like normal.
The pictures made it clear in an instant.
You are using wrong points on the board for the G and H points.
If you look in you second photo above the two points you soldered you see two silver solder pads between the D2B chip and the two little black squares.
Thats where the G and H wires normally go.
More clear description: in you picture you see the number on the board IC3001 the pad directly above the 1 is the H pad. the one to the right of it is the G pad.
Because of the angle i can't see if you soldered the J to the right point.
Double check the points with the offical d2pro diagram and only use the green points from the diagram which you can find at (http://www.d2pro.com/downloads/installD2pro5-9V1.4.pdf)
WOW!! Thanks! I have been looking at this so much and so long I looked right past that! thats why its nice to have help you some times look right past the odvious. hooked up the chip to the right points and its amazing how much better it works. Never fails no mater how long you have done this shit you will make stupid mistakes once in a while. lol :D
Enjoy your working chip :)
Your right sometimes the obvious stuff you overlook, been there... done that ;).
Always glad to be able to help.
