Wow. Thanks =)
Okay... I'm going through the preparations for all this... now I'm certain I have a vulnerable IOS at 249, but I have no idea what revision it is... With cIOS 249 rev. 15, do you mean cIOS38rev15 installed at 249? I'm going through the checklist making sure everything's ready before I pull this maneuver off...
If there's a real cIOS 249 rev. 15 I can't find it... could you maybe give me a link or at least PM me with some help for it?
Nevermind! I took the plunge and I can confirm that those steps worked for me WITHOUT Bootmii/boot2. THANK YOU!!!
I believe this is a very very important step for System Menu 4.2... I'll edit my first post to reflect the findings here.
This is a great Christmas Present =D
Okay. I updated my original post to reflect the findings of this Thread. I dunno if it's sticky worth, but I really hope it helps others regardless.
I'd like to say thank you for this post. It helped me out with MH3. :D
The only error I get is when I change my region to JP, I get an error going into wii settings about trying to go to some web address jp/jp/jp etc. Did you guys run into this issue as well?
that's called a semi-brick. you needs to make sure that the Trucha Bug Restorer worked 100%. use the program NUSD (check out wiibrew.org for info) and download the two versions of IOS15 and version 3351 of IOS36 to the root of your sd card then redo the steps for Trucha Bug restorer.

Another sucess change!
Hi, ddnat and sensimillia
I'm a total Wii newbie.
I bought a refurnished Japanese console (without knowing in fact) which vas very cheap for my son in Christmas. It came with 4.2J out of the box, but softmoded...
It has (as far as my little knowledge goes):
- system menu 4.2J
- Homebrew Channel
- IOS249 (or al least that's what Neogama says when I load it)
- Neogama r8 beta 15
I don't know if I have bootmii installed, and even if I had, if it cannot be installed as boot2 in 4.2 is useless, right?
Is the procces so risky (I'm really concerned abot getting a brick) I should wait for AnyRegion changer for 4.2? There will be such version?
Can you be so kind as to describe each step for someone with no experiece at all?
I'm totally lost at the complete step 3, for instance...
Thanks a ton. I really appreciate it.
I bookmarked this topic because it's just what I need. I ordered a Japanese Wii and it should be here next week but I want to change the region to US. I know nothing about this softmodding so I have to buy a SD card and start collecting these programs that you all are talking about. All I want to do is to change the region and I guess the store this one and only time. I have no plans to change them again.
I'll start reading some more stuff, making a list of the apps you all talked about before I start trying anything. Should I just load all of them onto the SD? One as a time until they're function is done? I'll check in later. Thanks.
Attempting to region change a wii here. It`s a jap 4.2J, so far it`s has been Softmodded with `the great Full hacking guide for 4.2 system menus!!!!` guide on here. I have a nand backup with bootmii as boot2 and also priloader is running fine.
When i goto run any region changer i get a -1017 error when launching the app, i have not ran the trucha signing option as explained in the thread here as that was not on the 4.2 softmod guide, is that the issue? Is it safe to perform that after i have already ran the softmod with the guide above?
Nevermind, i went ahead anyway after a little more research (you can never do enough research :) Ok so i performed the following:
1. Ran the updated 4.2 compatible version of Trucha Bug Restorer MOD from PowerWii
2. Picked IOS36, downgraded IOS15
3. Picked IOS15, patched IOS36 to slot 36 and 236
4. Restored IOS15
5. Ran Any region changer (latest from Wiibrew)
6. Picked Europe and set all relevant options but NOT downgrade 3.2 (as mentioned already by everyone don NOT do this you will BRICK).
7. Launched WAD Manager (1.4 in this case but don`t matter) and installed the system menu 4.2E as downloaded from NUS.
8. Re-installed Priiloader as hacks.ini now void as changed to a different region. Enabled required hacks etc from System menu Hacks option.
Rebooted, checked everything and now i have a fully running JAP 4.2J to 4.2E conversion. Please ensure you have downloaded all required wads before carrying out the mod, all info on this can be found with the TBA MOD app etc.
Thanks guys for a great thread and of course thanks to WiiHacks for providing what is the holy grail of Wii mod sites ;)
