I am running new super mario bros wii with my original Wiikey 1.9s without problems.
1. Install Homebrew Channel (search in other threads for information).
(Obs: Remember to always install bootmii and do a nand back-up in this step in case something bad happens)
2. Update to 4.2U using waninkoko updater
Remember to clear as much memory blocks as possible before doing this or you are going to have errors during the install.
3. Enjoy the game from the disc channel as normal. Use the patched dol version.
After I do this, the game plays perfect, no errors so far, all my other backup dvd works also, and original games too.
Hope this information helps.
My wii is at 3.4U and has a wiikey v1 w/ 1.9s. I haven't touched my wii in almost a year but really want to try punchout and super mario bros. wii. Can anyone point me to a good guide or tell what update i need to be at to play these?
I have a very old version of homebrew channel and have never used Waninkoko or bootmii. I'm reading around in the FAQ and Guides section but am feeling a little overwhelmed and am hoping someone with some experience can help a brother out.
Thanks, and sorry for double posting this. I accidentally posted this in the waininko thread.
Hello, I am pretty new to this, I bought a wii from a friend that has a wiikey. I am wanting to update in order to play the new super mario bros. I have already learned a lot but still feel a bit overwhelmed. I know nothing of homebrew or bootmii.
Iam so lost with all this new WII stuff aswell after not touching my wii for about a year...
So a beginners guide whould be nice too all this new stuff like the homebrew channel etc etc.
I have been getting some errors when trying to load some of my games, i made a thread about this tho so ill keep it there..
But a NEWBIE guide whould be nice for ous with a chip but that want to play ALL games that was the reason i chipped in the first place. It used to be so easy just plug the chip in upgrade and burn games then play. Now i just get a stream of errors.. :(
Exactly what I am thinking... usta plug n play now its soft mods combined with hardmods and dont combine this menu system with that or use this if you have a hardmod. It's so damned confusing now. Has not the developers of a modchip discovered that everytime nintendo releases a new game they update the system? and now companies like Wiikey that boasted about support and DVD upgrades announce they will no longer support the legacy chipsets? wtf was the point again of DVD upgrades? Wiikey seems to think we all want to keep messing with our Wii and opening it up every 2-3 years for a new chipset. Someone make a computer sytle case for the Wii so we can have quick access to the mod areas! So use homebrew channel and softmod till you get it right with the new menu system and hopefully you wont brick your system. I followed a guide on here for 4.2 NSMB with modchip and it did NOTHING like what was displayed on the youtube video. I installed homebrew and backed up then tried the apps and nothing ..the apps even automatically downloaded the different bios sets and nothing.... error after error. So frustrating! Time to go buy games I guess or wait for a new chipset yet again. Now where the heck is that triwing screwdriver I wanna save the $4.00
here is an awesome guide I used last night with great success.

Perhaps Wiihacks should employ a tester of all these links and just draw a red line through them if they no longer work.
