drivekey and NSMB retail
Hey just FYI, i was worried about the update bricking my wii, so i did some research and found out i was safe. if you do the update via download your wii will be running 4.2, if you do the update off the NSMB disc, it only updates to 4.1. i tested this out on my ntsc wii with a retail copy of nsmb and have no problems with my old backups.
if you update to 4.2 your retail copy of mario bros will play, but your old out of region backups will not play anymore.
if you disc update to 4.1 all ntsc and pal backups work.
just wanted to clear that up for anyone interested. i didn't want to softmod my wii. and the game used was only 39.99.
according to drivekey there will be an update available soon to bypass nintendo's new anti piracy patch, but no eta. and i'll be a jtag update.
I just got my DriveKey Today. How do you do a Jtag update?
I believe you have to have a programmer to Jtag update. You can update via dvd when it is avaliable. Hope this helps.
I'm running NSMB(patched version) with neogammaR7. I burnt the game to disc but it only runs using neogamma, not from the wii disc channel.

Will the Drivekey work on system menu 3.2ePAL? I don't want to update because I don't want to lose my homebrew stuff and I want to be able to play my exsisting back-ups.
I've just played avatar and it freezes on the second level, I think it has the same protection has NSMB. Another reason why it might be worth changing my chip.
Thank you for this post, definately good to know.
@ Skratchwiz, the drivekey is a great chip to switch to, since you're already modded wait for the NSMB compatible drivekeys to come out.
