Out of my depth
I have been looking over your forums regarding my Wii, i think however there is far too much information for mw to even understand whats going on. I havnt used my Wii since about 3 months after it was released in the UK so i havnt been keeping upto date on whats been happening over the last few years.
As i said earlier i got the Wii on release date so it's the first version im guessing, i had it modded (no idea what type of mod, beleieve it had something to do with the DVD drive being altered)
Anyway i had the old duplicate channels thing which i didnt really care abou, but after reading these here forums decided to get rid of them. I turned my Wii on and it had updated to 4.2E (which im gathering by reading various posts is not good?) My games still work as far as i can tell.
Now, i was going to get the Wii fit plus thing for my mum for christmas and give her my Wii. I was reading a long guide by someone with a username beginning with "M" (Sorry poster i was spead reading and didnt take in your name) and i was just like what the hell? to the point where i dont even know why id be doing what was written.
So is 4.2e bad? can i downgrade? can i get rid of duplicate channels? can i go as far as resetting it to "like new" (is this what you call a virgin Wii? i assumed it was a wii you got when signing up to virgin broadband or something)
Also, if i can get this all sorted out and back to normal, is there a newer mod chip i should be using (as i say i dont really know what chip i have at the moment)
Sorry if i sound like a complete idiot but every thread i read just keep adding new little programs and homebrew apps or chip versions. If the chip type is that important i can open her up and take a look if it helps?
it is not recommended to downgrade from 4.2. at this stage of the game you have some sort of chip which will allow you to bypass most dvd backup protections, however nintendo used a protection last time on it's nsmb game that caused alot of ppl to buy it that normally would have just downloaded it. alot of ppl who relied on their modchip alone were forced to have to experiment with softmodding to at least some degree to get this to work.
