You must understand that Usenet is the original means of file transfers. Almost every pirated work is first uploaded to Usenet- that is why most torrents are in rar format, they were first on Usenet and were taken and put into torrents. There is a very simple reason, it can be uploaded anonymously without tracking the offending uploader (if done correctly).

Usenet has immunity from responsibility of content, their servers can not be shutdown- it will last forever, unlike other technologies.
ssl encryption- hides your activity from your isp, who could rat you out or throttle or disconnect your service.
Disadvantages of Usenet:
Step learning curve
broken files- files a split into rar and sometimes the servers do not have 100% of the pieces
retention time- once this time expires the files are gone until someone else uploads them again.
cost- it is not free
Advantages of bittorrent:
Very easy to use
Sharing the bandwidth between multiple seeder and leechers enabling the distribution of large files with out the cost of server space and bandwidth utilization.
Torrents life will last forever so long as the file is adequately seeded.
Popular torrent files can be fast by sharing bandwidth.
It is free, be sure to never pay for it.
Private trackers available which increase speed by mandating ratios.
Encryption support to hide activity from your isp, who could rat you out or throttle or disconnect your service.
Disadvantages of bittorrent:
It is not private- anyone within the swarm can log your ip and uploading activity.
Old torrents loss popularity and become very very slow as more people leach and less and less people seed, eventually they die.
Many trackers have been forced to log ips
Many torrent distributors have also been forced to log ips
There are many more for both I am sure.
You know, there is a UseNet guide right on the wiihacks site that might also help: http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-gu...ow-usenet.html
