You can forst try to get WBFS Manager for Mac IS working on your Mac-startup the Mac without the WD HDD plugged in; now start the WBFS Mgr program; NOW plug in the WD HDD and see if it can be formatted following the guide instructions.

New to softmod
Hey guys, I just followed the guide by shadowsonic and softmodded my Wii and installed USB Loader.
I followed all the steps in both the softmod and USB Loader guide but for some reason when I try and rip my games by clicking "+" in USB loader the screen goes blank and nothing seems to be going on? Any ideas where I could have messed up?
Edit: I am using a western digital 320 gb passport

I'm using softmod method with 4.1U NA wii. Everything was working great until I decided to get wiimc working. I installed a new cios for it and wiimc worked great but now usb loader gx won't anymore. I've tried installing cios38 rev14 and recently following the usb loader guide and reinstalled everything and am now on cios38rev17.
Everytime I load it up it says:
Initializing USB(wake up)
Reloading Ios 249... 0
Init ubfs... 0
Initialize sd card
Initialize usb device
Its not the device as I've played hours on it before with no problems and I tried updating usb loader gx as well. I've seen other people posting this problem on other forums but I've never found a reply.
Can anyone help?
What exactly did you instal prior to the loader fail?

Wiimc. I installed a cios as well, I believe rev17. I tried rev14 and the wiimc settings changed a little abit and now I've followed the instructions from the usb loader gx site and I'm back on rev17.

Hmmm, I have never heard of that happening from installing a different cios on 249 unless it was rev19 or something like that. Have you installed hermes cios 222 yet? It may not be the solution to your issue, but it helps to run usb peripherals and many users report inhanced performance of their usb loading of games as well.
