Can I just format my HDD to WBFS via WBFS Manager without making partitions, because I don't want to watch movies, listening to music or anything similar. I just want to play games, and SD card has enough memory to place covers. If I just format to WBFS do I need to set Primary and Active because I only have one partition?
P.S. If I make 40 GB NTFS partition and 40 GB FAT32 partition, can I use them to place some files from computer which I don't need for Wii?
P.P.S. I'm sorry if this is already posted, I cant read all those pages
Nice how that worked out for you. If you hadn't been prepared to be patient, then probably all heck would have been turned loose. That's great that you have a working HDD, now. Enjoy it!

No problem-if you plan to plug and plug that HDD from the Wii, you might consider getting a USB extension cable to reduce the wear and tear on the Wii's USB port. The Wii is not the sturdiest of machines.

But then I try your guide, follow it, formatting my HDD plugging it in and so on.. When I load USBloaderGX on my wii, it says that I only have 0.2 gb free and if I do try to look around in the menu and so on in USBloader it sometimes randomly crash, showing a black sreen with a lot of white text (mostly numbers) and at the same time makes a wierd noise that I don't think are healty for my wii... I then reset the wii and everything is back to normal..
I use a Western Digital 1TB HDD - WD10000H1cs - 00 which should work.
softmod my 4.2 wii - Does work (neogamma and other works)
your guide, formatting the HDD and so on..
Still runs the things from the SD which is ofc plugged in.
Any idea why it says I only got 0.2gb and why it randomly crash ?
1st thanks again for all the help anyone could ever need hackin wii's.
However I am having a prob. ... I was using the "update your old softmod" tut. and I did not realize I wasn't supposed to run preloader on 3.2 (I was rushing) so I did
could only load preloader....SM was corrupted
Found a guide to let me reinstall Hackmii programs like HBC,dvdx ... etc again
All is up and good except now I get BAD results from my HDD laoders
They either dont load at all or freeze up during loads between screens a few minutes in to the games
I had previously partitioned the HDD with the WBFS up front and checked that the hp smartsave was compatable w/ the wii and all was well before I did the updates.
I am kinda new @ this and have done 4 successfully but seem to have F'ed up my own now trying to update it...LLS
BTW it plays games on disc thru neogamma NP.... my daughters been playing SMG2 for hours on DVDR no problem
Thanks again all and Im Lovin this whole scene
Should I be able to rip discs directly to the WBFS partition using USB Loader GX? It just hangs. What I can do, though, is rip them to the FAT partition and then (from my PC) use Wii Backup Manager to pop them over to the WBFS partition and then they play fine.
Thanks, I downloaded another iso and it worked but I have another question; I sometimes get a little lag from the game. Can I do anything about it?

My only suggestion would maybe be to emphasize that the USB HD needs to be plugged in when the Wii is off in the OP. It gave me some problems because I hadnt reset my Wii since installing the USB loader channel.
I just want to add something to this great post and that is about WBFS Manager and whether anyone knows if there are any plans to cater for more than 500 titles in the future? Handy to know so that you can plan ahead before buying hardware.
