The only thing now I can assure about Wasabi DX is that it really works. Even my (8 years old) son play games each day, starting my 4.2 (USA) bricked Wii while pressed on the center of the D-Pad of a standart GameCube controller attached to port #4. It's the standard procedure now.:)
Although, there are some exceptions like the disc inserted must match the region of the Wii (in this situation must be a NTSC-U disc). I think, this explains why the Universal Unbrick Discs or similar others doesn't boot (because they are originally PAL). Patched, isos doesn't work too as far as I see. Other than that, Wii itself is media sensitive and Wasabi DX too.
So anyone who wants it to boot must match some other criteria.
You have to have a working iso and write it on the right media with the right burning tool at the right speed. So if everything goes well I think you can start Super Smash Bros. Brawl too, on your banner brick Wii.
For me, ImgBurn at 4x on a Verbatim DVD-R worked as well as an old Philips DVD+RW (and another one from the same box didn't work... funny!!). You should know that as higher speeds (8x or above) slow speeds like 2x or 2.4x might not work too. It's a matter of environment and conditions.
For now I'm waiting for SSBB to finish downloading to test my theory.
Though I don't know exactly what to do after it works... :)
Sorry, SSBB ntsc will not autoboot. I have tried dvd5, dvd9, original, set the iso to autoboot, set it as normal set the chip to autoboot and not, but that game will not autoboot. It will not autoboot from the recovery menu, it will not autoboot from the disk channel. The new wasabi dx firmware automatically detects ssbb and sets the chip to not autoboot to prevent errors.
It is ironic that the one game that could fix the issue also refuses to autoboot.
I'm really stuck. In the meantime I tried really hard to be able to say that mauifrog was wrong. Unfortunately I can't.
But I wonder if "Please Insert the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Game Disc" message counts. If so, SSBB (iso patched with BootMe from CorteX), autoboots with Wasabi DX installed (configured to autoboot also).
Wii BootMe - WiiBrew
I think it is important because it means that actually the game loads but after that it can't find "a necessary thing" to properly finish booting sequence. May be, because it is a dual layer disc.
Probably, the original one isn't an autoboot disc and the autoboot patched backup disc is lack of something. (or something else).
I guess some information on these pages may help,
Issue 303 - dolphin-emu - Super Smash Bros Brawl: Dual Layer "Please Insert SSBB Gamedisc" - Project Hosting on Google Code
[PATCH] Super Smash Bros Brawl USA fix
But, this is for sure, message is coming from the game not from the Wii itself.
While I was trying "everything" to load SSBB within Recovery Menu (yes I was desperate), I attempted to take out the autobooting disc and (since it asks me to insert the game disc) I gave it one after another.
As I don't have an original SSBB disc, may be some of you can try that.
Here is how to do, right after 4.2(USA) disappear and second strong sound from DVD that means it is reading (I didn't know how to describe) press eject button.
It must be just before the "Please Insert the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Game Disc" message. If it is too early you'll get "003 error" screen. And if you're late the disc will start spinning endlessly. If you eject and insert any disc it will not even start spinning again.
But if you press eject between these two points, (although you'll see the same message but) this time it will accept every disc you insert and hopefully (if it's the original one) SSBB will start.
I think worth to try.
Actually , I only have a few titles I couldn't be able to run on my Wii (that is bricked). Even the newest ones like Avatar and New Super Mario Bros. (after patching with Wasabi DX BCA_patch) works pretty well. I sometimes stop and think why should I need the boring Wii menu? :)
guess now i also in this club :( ... just got error 003 after update with Endless Ocean 2...
but it kinda strange..because my wii using d2c modchip 4.1 firmware (using offline updater), although yes i change region it from Japan to US, and i though that error 003 can't happen to Wii with modchip..anybody can give me some explanation here?....thanks before
oh yeah i also have another wii (US) with wiikey and it survives through 4.2 online updater..though now it can't longer read disc from other region than US (but neogamma take care that problem)
Endless Ocean 2 is a 4.2 disc, updating your region hacked Wii to 4.2 has clearly 003 errored it. It's strange though as I thought only Korean Wiis suffered from this issue. Is your Wii a Korean modded to Jap to USA or something conplicated like that?
It's possible that Jap Wiis are not constrained in the same ways as Korean Wiis, so maybe if it wasn't a Korean Wii at some point you may be able to boot SSBB or something using your modchip. Look out for Mauifrog's guides and give them a shot.
The issue is unique to the Korean wii, specifically the Korean common key. I have not heard of any issues, but perhaps Korean support was added to the wii with any region changer. Not exactly sure what that does, but it involves to Korean key, so perhaps your region changed Jap wii had Korean support enabled which triggered the error. Otherwise, you have a Korean wii.
