YA upgrading question!
been looking around last couple of days, sorry if this subject has been done to death!!
I have a 3.2e wii that I twilight hacked at the start of the year. It currently has HBC 1.5 on it and a few other bits of homebrew (nothing major, just a backup (dvd) launcher and some other things like geexbox etc).
Now I want to upgrage the cios on it as a few things dont work like the microphone on GH games/ usb disk loaders/ new games etc.
Someone directed me to the guide here but I fail at the very first step!!
Copy the app and wad to your SD card and do the following:
1) Install cIOS249 rev14.
with error "installing title ERROR ret =-1017"
when i try to install via wad manager 1.3
(I read somewhere that this may be because the .wad wasnt in the root of the , but I cannot see the wad in wad manager if ii put it in the root!?!)
Someone else then told me that if I just run banerbomb, then everything that I dont have will be updated for me therefore I want to knwo:
1. What is the best way to proceed, is it via fixing the error and working with the guide above,
2. Ignoring the guide and running banerbomb (if possible)
3. some other option!?
-what is the error above?
-should I install bootmii before proceeding with anything, and if so in what mode?
Thanks in advance, and sorry about the list of qs, I know some (probably all!!) is covered elsewhere, but I could not see specific answers to my q's, and didnt want to annoy others on the non-beginer forums :) !!!
cIOS249 rev 14 normally comes with it's own installer app that you'd launch from homebrew channel. Wad manager is not required for this.
Bannerbomb won't do anything, it's just an exploit that runs a boot.elf file on your SD card.
Bootmii should be installed as boot2 if possible, if not then as IOS. You need to grab the hackmii installer to do that.

so should cIOS249 rev 14 be able to be run on any wii, i.e. regarless of what was on the unit before?
Should I just put the wad in my hbc wad directory and go? (sorry, not at home now and trying to gain as much infor b4 tackling it tonight!!)
also, is adding bootmii (to boot2 or ios) itself risky and what should I look out for?
The wad goes at SD root for the cIOS installer.
cIOS249 can run on any Wii but sometimes the Wii will need to have Trucha Bug Restored prior to installation. On 3.2 you should be fine.
Bootmii/boot2 does have an element of risk, however I've never come across anyone who has bricked their Wii because of it, however I can recall dozens of Wiis that have been saved because of it. The hackmii installer is clever and knows exactly which type is best to install. Bootmii/IOS has little or no risk, however it's not as handy as boot2.
many thanks, thats cleared a few issues up there, will be trying out tonight!
also if bootmii is installed to boot2, can it be uninstalled easily?
Yes it can. Why would you though, it would be mental.
yep I know!
