Sorry to sound like such a n00b. I installed the drivekey 2.0 last week and was on 3.4. I did run bannerbomb and installed HBC and DVDx. I didn't understand what bootMii was so I skipped it. Then I upgraded to 4.2U without reading this thread first. Now about 3/4 of the backups I own don't work.
What are my options here?
I'm reading conflicting articles about downgrading from 4.2... is this advised?
Or should I install some type of backup launcher in HBC?
Once again sorry to sound like a beginner on this. If I understand everything correctly, is using a backup launcher in HBC actually "softmodding"? Then was my DK purchase in vain?
My Wii is ver 4.2U,I have purchsed the drivekey and none of the backups work.I have tried many thing already ,I've triedfollowing the intructions from therir website and nothing.I tried using verbatim dvd-R and still nothing. Is therir a specific way to burn games or should I get a better modchip? And also I am able to go to the drivekey's config menu.
If anyone can help it will be much apreciated!!!!!
Only NTSC backups will work on it with Menu 4.2 My Wii has menu 4.0U and I will NEVER update it. You might consider a WODE. Has a lot more features and allows PAL & NTSC backups with Menu 4.2. To be honest, if I didn't already have a drivekey with Menu 4.0U, I would own a WODE.
It doesn't matter what mod chip is installed with 4.2 or above system installed on the WII Playing games from other regions, simply WONT work.
For people with drive issues check this link:
List of Wii drivechips - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. As you can see on it if you get D3 then you wont be able to play any backup games from own or another region. Solution to it is to get Wiikey fusion or something similar and play backup games from sd or try to find another drive for your Wii. I would go with the fusion, easier to put games on SD and save lot of burning time or costs on blank dvds;)
Right now, my Wii is updated to 4.2u. This update made some of my games stop playing. Here's a list of some that used to play, but now dont.
Here's a list of some that DO work. A number of these did not work before the update, but do now.

However, here's the ones that still dont work, but worked before. These two worked before and after the update, but now dont work after I placed the 4.1 firmware. get this, when I insert the game, the Wii states it needs an update. I just ejected the disc because I dont want to go over the process again.
Madden 10 ***would like this one to work again.
Ones that dont work, but never did are
Ghostbusters ***read that everyone is having issues with this one, I work worry about it.
Tiger Woods 10 ***be nice to have this work, but dont care much for golf
Any ideas on how to get Madden to work without doing an update.
Depends. If immediate blackscreen, likely missing IOS required that the game runs under. Teal'C has a Recommended Guide with regard to IOS as required by games. Ghostbusters has a "trick" to make it work (you must be playing via disc I take it, since hardmod). Use the search feature of the site. On USB HD, the trick isn't necessary.
If you don't get an immediate blackscreen on the titles mentioned, post back as well. Note: those threads are generally skewed to softmodding as will require either wad manager or NUS downloader to install relevant IOS. That or you'll need to find an update containing said IOS (but not SM4.2 or 4.3 as you discovered).
Not softmod at all. Just have the DriveKey chip. I bought this chip last year, so I think it's version one.
It doest black screen at all. When I insert the disc while I'm in the Disc Channel, it does it's spinning thing of the Wii and GC discs, after a few seconds, a popup appears stating that a system update is required. So I dont know if this is a game update or a Wii system update. So all I did was eject the game and the bubble said failed because I never pressed OK to update. After the game ejects, the screen goes back to the Disc Channel.
