Is the PS3 hackable?
I named the post wrong, I was wondering if the PS3 slim is hackable.
I thought I might buy a PS3 since the price dropped. Just wondering if the PS3 slim is hackable, because it probably will not be long before the phat will be off the shelves, forever.
As far as I know the only reason for hacking a PS3 is to run PS2 games from an external drive. And as the PS3 slims have no emotion engine (to play PS2 games) then what would be the point?
Right now Blu-Ray burners and media are too expensive to warrant the use of back-ups and downloading a 50gig ISO isn't something I'd want to do, so I see no use in hacking a PS3 slim right now.
Sony pretty much combated the use of back-ups on their console just due to the sheer capacity of the discs.
Enlighten me though if there is any other reason to hack a PS3...
You know, I was thinking a Blu-Ray disc was only 25 GB and that don't mean that the ISO is going to be 25 GB. Look at GC, PSX, Wii, PSP ISO's, not all of them fill up the disc. I was thinking more like a USB laoder that scrubs the image. Even if the game was 10 GB, you could fit a lot of games on a 1 TB or 2 TB HDD.
idc too much about play ps3 backups because like someone else said that would take forever to backup or download. I would like to use the ps3 to store ps2 isos and ps1 isos kind of like how the psp plays psx games
I rarely download ISO's, my Wii HDD has about 140 ISO's on it and only about 10 are downloads, the rest are installed from retail discs, so no worries about the downloads. I was reading that the least a PS3 ISO maybe about 7-8 gigs and the better games may be up to 25 gigs. That could be 2 hours of ripping (at wii speed), if it were possible. Just storing psx and ps2 games would be worth it.
Stomp... I was wondering the same thing. I love my Wii, don't get me wrong, but the big price drop of the PS3, blueray player, and some of their game titles are getting hard to ignore.
And, for me... I remember when burning a regular cd took ALL NIGHT LONG! So, I have no qualm about setting up a rip/burn/ect over night, and enjoying the next day. I can wait. ;]~ Heck, even a 25 gig download per game, granted I'd hafta be very picky about what I download, I'd be more then willing to do, and throw that on an external drive and call it a day.
So.... Symantics out of the way; what is expected, is it possible? I'm fairly sure its not quite to the "opening up" level that we enjoy with the Wii, but I'm curious if/how much work has been done. (Granted this is a Wii site, but as I don't even own a PS3, and not planning on it for a little bit, and I like all you guys, I figured it was safe to post this general overhead knowledge question too, lol)
