Wiiware capacity issues
US-NTSC Wii, both hard and soft modded, firmware 3.2U, HBC 1.01, IOS36 v 4.18, Wad Mgr 1.3 by Waninkoko, currently using a 1 Gb SD card
I used to play backup Wii games only, now starting to get some backup Wiiwares games too. Just would like to confirm how it works to prevent it from bricking. Once I installed a wii ware thru Wad mgr from my SD card, a new channel is created on my home menu. Based on my understandings, the actual storage of the game is still within my SD card, right? Which means as long as I don't maxed-out my SD card, I won't bricked my wii? Or once installation is completed, the storage is within my wii itself, and I need to make sure the wii's internal memory is adequate, or else that will brick the wii?
The 2nd part of this question is probably going to be answered during the ones above, but i'll ask anyway just to make it nice and clear. Once the wiiware (wad) was installed, do I still need to keep them in my SD card to play? Also, is it necessary to 'uninstall' the wad if I no longer needs it? It would make sense if it uses memory in the wii, but otherwise why don't we just delete the wad file from our SD card?
Finally, I want to play 'punch out', but it requires my wii to update to 4.0, which I'm afraid i'll lose all those extras from HBC and wad mgr. Is it true that I could keep 'EVERYTHING' (HBC,Wad Mgr) after I updated to 4.0? If so, I'll refer to the upgrade tutorial for updating process.
Thx in adv for the reply :)
Once you install a wad to your Wii you can remove it from your SD card and the installed game will remain on your Wii. If you want to remove the game from your Wii, you can do it from the settings menu. I'm not sure about bricking if you don't have enough free blocks, I just make sure when installing wads that there is more than enough free blocks.
I install all my games to HDD, I never run an orginal game from the disc channel. By doing this, all my games are scrubbed and never get a prompt to update. My Wii is softmodded, 3.2U, cIOS 36 rev10, and every game works, even the newer ones.
Thx for the quick response. So as long as the Wii has enough free blocks, I could keep as many wiiware on my wii as I could. Now, does anyone knows how many free blocks each wiiware game uses? Just would like to know that for future references.
I also had a friend using WBFS to backup his games, he did actually run update it to 4.0, but without any problems with any games, and all of them scrubbed. Now apparently switching to HDD mod could play any games without any problems even without updating the Wii, that's even better. Do you have to update your IOS periodically tho in order for the new games to work properly?
typically, having 4~5 wiiwares installed into wii, "out of blocks" problem would be surfaced.
