Thank you so, soo much!
My girlfriend's Japanese Wii (4.0) had been through a right mess of updates following an excellent YouTube guide, here, of how to install the HomeBrew channel without the Twilight Hack. The guide was brilliant, but covered only the hack and nothing more. Getting USB Loader 1.5 to work was a nightmare as I had no idea about ISO nor cIOS, in the end cluttering the Wii with god know what installed, wasting hours reading posts on GBAtemp and other forums -all of which had an elitest air of authority, despite a distinct lack of grammar and ability to form proper English sentences!! I was digging a deeper and deeper hole for myself; RET errors 4100, 2100, 1035; various IOS and cIOS installations; WAD Loader; Load Mii; Wadder; Uninstallers; AnyTitle remover; all the time getting more and more lost...
What I needed was a guide that said "fuck it, lets get your cIOS sorted, whatever the fuck!"
And old boy, my man.. you done it! All the files in one place, with instructions, job done! I was able to correct whatever shortcomings my previous endeavours had created (quite a few, I am sure!) and install the correct cIOS. In less than 5 minutes. I was biting my nails at times but the instructions were clearly written without patronisation. So many other guides digress into alternative methods (software or variables) and gloss over the actual 'instruction' but Dogeggs nails it on this guide and his other posts.
So I now have a Japanese 4.0 playing games via USB Loader 1.5, Configurable USB Loader (better in my opinion, for the extensible run time options) and via the Backup Loader channel.

I'm amazed at the time Dogeggs has put in to this forum, and the superb level of patience he has displayed in his support to everyone. I'm sure there are other contributors but damn, Dogeggs (srsly, what's with that name?:p) has ended like an entire day of headaches for me and landed me in a sweeeet spot with my girl.;)
Your Firmware (FW) version (4.0u) is not related to the Cios' you have installed. In the most likely of cases, you probably do not want to update your FW, but your Cios. The guide here allows you to update your Cios in the correct order so that your Wii can play better with hacks, which sometimes require specific Cios' to be installed or available from your Wii. FW and Cios are different.
Apologies if I stand corrected, but that's as I understand it!
Thx alot. Clear , concise and very easy. Thx again.
It will still be the same menu version but internally it will be hackable so you get the all the good parts of the wii. Don't worry abou the menu version and as long as everything went fine on the installs(no errors) your wii is hackable. ENJOY!!!!
I had spent hours trying to accomplish what this guide did for me in minutes. Awesome. Worked like a champ.
I have few questions about the guide so if anyone knows the answers please help me..
2: Go to Homebrew channel and run Trucha Bug Restorer, load IOS36, press 1, read the warnings then select 'downgrade IOS15', select to load IOS from SD card then let it do its job......which IOS should I select. There are 4 ISO.wad files in the sd card or it just know what to select
3: Run Trucha Bug Restorer again, this time using d-pad left/right to change the IOS, load IOS15 on first screen, select the IOS36 menu & install patched (select 'yes' on all 3 patches) IOS36 to slot 36, again using IOS from SD card.....again, which IOS should I select from SD card
it will select the right ios off the card itself - just try it, it's a lot simpler than it sounds :)
thanks dogeggs, i wiil give it a shot tonight...
