I, too, have the same problem after updating to firmware 4.2. I can't play any of the PAL games but ok with US games. I also have another wii with drivekey but have no problem playing either PAL or U.S games. The firmware is 3.2 however. What gives? the games are NBA 2k10, call of duty 4. I tried playing the new super mario but it loaded and hung and then rebooted to the main wii screen???
I got similar problems here. Got 4.1J Wii with Drivekey, my config mirrors yours and I get hell a lot of backuped games not working, even ntscs. The list is a bit big enough for me to type, but its by dozens. About half the games I download and burn don work anyhow.
I hear here and there that non-chip hackings makes almost all games to work, but I cant really get past all those info on how-to's and hundreds of steps.
If anyone happens to find out a solution to make more games to work without having to hack the system, plz let us know :p
there seem to be tools which can convert pal games into ntsc and vice versa. are these not working? I couldnt try it out myself yet but I was wondering what the fuss is all about playing imported games.
cant you simply, patch every iso into your preferred region format?
and can someone explain quickly to me why I shouldnt used scrubbed versions?
Well, actually, THERE ARE some backup PAL games working on my Jap Wii, hence, I dunno if the PAL/NTSC region change would really work. Some games I even tried to download diff regions and same thing: insert the disk, it displays in Disc Channel, u enter and start and....black screen and freeze....
I think I would take some time and risk the softmod way, just dunno if I have to remove the DriveKey or if I can make it with it on....
I will try it out myself soon. On the other hand, I get all my games in my preferred format anyway, so I think the fact that the wii cant play imported games anymore after installing 4.2 can be neglected. I DO understand that there seems to be some games from lets say japan which arent released in other countries but for that you can still downgrade to 4.1
For myself, I'm more interested in the games which are released worldwide so this restriction doesnt really bother me.
but interesting to see that we dont get any feedback here from the more experienced users here on this topic.
I also wouldnt go for softmodding. I dont want to risk bricking my wii only to save a few quid.
