New to the board and the world of Wii generally, i have a PAL Wii with a drivekey and had a few questions that hopefully some people can answer.
1: when looking at downloadable games there seem to be many different types and was wondering which were compatible with my drivekey such as:
Patched for gamma?
Do these generally work with drivekey or is it best to stick to full untouched rips so to speak?
2: i think i understand the bricking aspect of updating an ntsc version in my PAL Will, if i change the setting on my drivekey to block all imports then i assume that negates the problem?
3: in addition to the above i am aware of the brickblocker utility, is that compatible with drivekey, if so is that more advisible than the block all imports referenced above?
Thanks for any help :)
1. If its scrubbed, or and especially if its patched it will not work. I stick to finding downloads 4.3 g, that way I know they will work, only coasters I have made have been scrubbed games.
2. correct from my understanding.
3. I have never used it and am ok, but better get more advice on this one.
Thanks for taking time out to reply, so you've generally had no issues with untouched downloads?

i second Prarieboy all download games have worked for me bar 1 but it was scrubbed downloaded a none scrubbed and it worked fine!!! I have only downloaded pal versions as have a pal wii so cant say how import downloads work.
I can confirm that import downloads works just fine with Drive Key - I play NTSC games on my PAL Wii without any problems.
Just remember to leave the Drive Key setting to block all updates from imports as stated above, and you'll be fine.
1. in my experience it's best to download untouched versions... scrubbed versions have worked with my pal wii 4.0 drivekey no softmods, newer versions (3.4+) don't work with non-full sized games. patched I have no idea, I figured why bother.
2+3: don't update your console out of region (i.e. don't update with NTSC games on your PAL console) having the block import updates option on your drivekey will eliminate that problem. In my experience brickblocking doesn't help. it's unnecesary and won't change anything. for example Madword NTSC won't work on my Pal wii, it wants to update, with wiikey blocking updates it gives me a black screen, updates enabled it wants to update, brickblocked it gives me blackscreen (just as it will with DK's import update blocked) yet the PAL version works without any problems.
so...un conclusion: blocking import updates makes you safe. untouched downloads are most likely to work (try espalwii). and brickblocking doesn't change anything.
Wow..........thanks folks you've all been a really great help :D
I appreciate the time you've taken to advise me.
