How to play NES games
I've been reading trying to figure out today, what's needed to play NES games on your wii. I've done searching on google, and on this forum. What I've came across are these 2 threads:
and the How to setup Homebrew on your Wii, thats sticky'd under homebrew section
Now my question is, are these pretty much the way everyone goes about getting NES games for the wii? And my other question is, can I just take my wii, that is brand new, haven't even played it yet, and just follow those steps in the how to setup homebrew, and I should be good to go, and getting NES game then? Or is there any mod chips or anything else I'd need in order to do this? Is there a way I can get to play NES games on the wii, without having to do all that, and renting/buying the zelda game?
Thanks, there's alot of useful info on this site, and some of it is a little hard to understand as a noob, and instead of spending another couple hours on reading threads, I figured i'd just pop the question now, and see if someone can give me a good answer.
There are two ways to play NES games. I will explain them in a moment. But you will need the Homebrew Channel, Twilight Princess etc. Unless you plan on just buying the games at the shop channel.
Method one: wad.
With wad manager (search on the forum how to use it) you can install games from the shop channel. I think this gives you better quality, but not all games are on the shop channel. This also gives you a channel at your wii and costs system memory.
Method two: emulator.
With an emulator you have to download roms of the games you want to play, I believe the program of the emulator is fceu. You can add that in applications. You put the roms in the roms folder of the fceu map, then load it via homebrew channel. Google it for more info. The plus sides are that it costs no wii memory and you can play almost all games, the downside is that the quality may be lower then method one.
Personally I don't play NES games, but I suggest method two so you get more games.
Thanks for the quick reply....So no matter what I will need to do the homebrew/twilight/etc, all the stuff thats posted in the option that I linked in the begining?
I already have all the roms and an emulator on my computer, but i'd need to download the fceu emulator, to load on the wii? I can still use all the same roms though correct? I can play all the games on my laptop, but I bought a couple classic controllers for the wii, so my g/f could play. She enjoys all the old nes games, so I figured why not.
But using the second method i'd still need the homebrew download, and get a copy of zelda correct?
Yes you would need the fceu emulator, can use the roms that you have and you need homebrew channel and Twilight. and the games can be played with just the wiimote on its side.
